The Crash

Here are some photos of the van my father-in-law Marsh Jackson was driving last Friday when they were struck by a lunatic. The impact point was the front driver's side.

Photography by Jeri Sickels

Marsh is home now under the tender care of Jeri and her mother. He is recovering nicely and everything is going to be OK. His passenger is still in the hospital, and when we find out her condition we will let you know.

On behalf of the Jackson and Sickels families, thank you for all the warm thoughts and prayers.

Wow that is bad
I'm amazed he survived because most crashes I see like that, the people usually don't make it.  I lost a few friends two in a half years ago and their vehicle looked like that.

Re:
Braves, I'm sorry to hear about you losing your friends.  Very tragic, especially at such a young age.  I hope you never have to face something like that again.

That's one of the more terrifying images I've seen for a car crash in a long time.  Very lucky everyone is as good as they are...

Holy F*ck!!!
Amazing anyone survived.  I've seen people die in crashes far less extensive.  Compare those pics to those of the Dale Ernhart crash - and Dale's car was built to withstand impacts!

Good luck to Marsh and the other in the car on their recovery.

You realize that prospect lists have a time horizon of like 5-10 years, not 5-10 days, right?

WOW
Sadly, I see wrecks like that on the job frequently.  Thankfully it seems the car bore the brunt of the impact like it was designed to do.  Here's to the continued speedy recovery of Jeri's dad and everyone else involved in the crash.  I'm glad to hear that he's out of the hospital and with loved ones at home too.  Mahalo

PS.  Sorry to hear about your loss Braves  ...

Amazing
Yes, that's what I thought when I saw the pictures too.  As horrific as they are, it's clear that modern safety standards came into play here and the cars crumpled largely as they were intended to do.  There was damage to the passenger area, but not as much as it could have been.  It's the rest of the vehicle that got ripped to shreds.

I'm thankful for the survival of the passengers, and I continue to wish them a good recovery.  I'm also glad that vehicles are being designed to give their passengers a better chance of survival in such awful circumstances.

Thanks for that
Still it was the kid's fault in that accident, he was driving 60+ on snow covered roads.  I had college that morning and I was driving on that very road and they had it blocked off and I thought as I drove on a different road that a tractor trailor was involved and it was.  The kid lost it on a turn and drove right into a truck, very distrubing seeing the car shaped like a hourglass.  Kids these days need to learn to never drive over 40 on snow covered roads, because the winters in CNY are quite bad at times.  I was friends with the driver of the car and his friend was my best friend's younger brother. Another kid I knew got killed in a wreck the summer of that year. Three other kids from near where I lived died in a car accident last year because the were driving over a knoll like fools using it as a jump.  I think they were going well over 70 MPH and they lost control and had their car destoyed when it hit a tree and went into a pond where a friend of mine parents live.  I think that past accident shook up the community a lot and there hasn't been any serious accidents since.

God is definitely on your side John. Unbelievable that your family could survive that.

Jesus
To survive an accident like that kinda shows the amount of protection cars give you. My prayers are with you and your family John

Can't believe it
That's a car wreck that precedes funerals.  I'm amazed nobody died let alone critically injured.

Good fortune.

My father
was in a crash where his car looked almost exactly like that - 34 years ago.  He missed 10 months of work but has been fine ever since, still going strong at 73.  Hope your father-in-law recovers more quickly and fares as well after.

Wow...
John, you guys have some series of challenges these last couple of years. I guess all I can say is keep the faith. You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Echo the same
Thoughts and prayers John, to yourself, Jeri and all involved.

After seeing those pics, "we" complain about such small things.  This puts things into perspective.

My thoughts
are with you guys tonight.  Thank god everyone survived and I hope the second passenger is home soon.

Thankfully your FIL is recovering well now. Hopefully the passenger will do the same.

My thoughts and prayers are with Marsh, his
passenger, and both families, friends, and all who know either or both.

Hello John,

As others have mentioned, it's amazing that both Marsh and his passenger are still alive, seeing that the car is nothing but a mangled piece of metal.  Thank goodness it was built well enough so that your father-in-law is recovering nicely and his passenger is still alive, and will hopefully recover as well.

Braves - sorry to hear about the crashes in your community.  It's a shame people, especially young people, don't always think before they drive, not realizing that 2,000+ lb. vehicles can do serious damage to a person, enough to kill them quite easily if they're not careful.  And sometimes, it's not the fault of the driver, but the fault of another driver that leads to the first driver's injury or death, but when you drive recklessly without thinking, that's quite sad in my opinion.  Again, my condolences.

The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.

Very lucky
Marsh is a lucky man.  I'd never expect anybody to survive looking at that car.  Hopefully both parties are recovering well.

My best wishes to your family. John, I hope Marsh has a full recovery.
