Around SBN: 2011 In Extreme Home Runs

Joey Votto

Ok... so he is only getting his second start, but man, he looks good in Cinci's line-up.  Is he up to stay?  Is he Cinci's starting 1b next season or is he stuck back in the minors?

If so.... what are reasonable expectations next season?

.285 BA .370 OBP 22 HR?

More or less?

Any other thoughts?

I hope he is here to stay.....
I just wish they would stop batting him 8th in the line up. I know its only two games, but he goes 3-3 with a walk and a HR in his first game and he is back in the 8 hole again.

I would imagine your numbers aren't too far off of what he could do next year in a full season in Cincinnati. .280/.370/.480 ish is what I would say. It seems like the Reds would probably platoon him next year, so he would get a ton of at bats against righties, and not as many against lefties, which will improve his numbers. Toss in that he plays in Cincinnati and it will help even more.

About Him
his first 2 at bats He looked overmatched, Mota made him look silly with a changeup then I think Heilman did the same then all of a sudden the next day he's bombing balls all over the place

Umm
His first at bat he struck out. His next at bat he hit a HR. The next two were line drive singles into left field. Today he went 1-3 with a walk....

Maybe you are mixing up one of his at bats with someone else on the Reds?

Heilman
I think Heilman struck out a different September callup (don't remember who).  Mota definitely made Votto look bad but, hey, it was the kid's first major league at bat.  He had a right to be nervous and Mota's change is pretty good.

o maybe
but he did look good the next day with the homerun and hitting the ball hard, maybe it was just nerves the first at bat
