Player Development Contracts

I am a long time Appy League fan and had to endure this season in Pulaski without a team after we were screwed over by the Blue Jays at the 11th hour.

Around here we've heard rumors of a possible Nationals interest in playing in Pulaski for the 2008 season but have heard nothing concrete about this.  It would seem that they would leave their Vermont NYPL affiliate to join the Appy League.

Is there a Nats fan or anyone else that has information about this?  Or is there anyone that can tell me when we might start hearing about new player development contracts for next season?

Wow
Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.  I believe the comment about his town getting screwed was made because the decision to leave was made at the last minute, thus leaving Pulaski no time to try to find another interested affiliate.

As for the yearly affiliate shake-up, that should occur sometime after the minor league seasons come to a close.  I'm not sure where you'd be able to find which contracts are up following the season, though.  I'm sure a google search could turn something up.

Reading Comprehension
A. The Blue Jays DID screw over Pulaski and the entire Appy League by terminating their relationship with them at the 11th hour.  By the time Toronto decided they weren't going to field an Appy League team, every other team already had affiliates in place.

B. The OP never explicitly or implicitly stated that he hoped Washington would screw over their NYPL city to come to Pulaski.  Rather, it was obviously implied that he was hoping they would simply move their affiliate right after the season ends, like every team (except Toronto) does.

Just one more reason why everyone hates J.P. Ricciardi.

Pulaski
On my trip back from Tennessee where I went to a bunch of Appy league parks I stopped in Pulaski and that park is beautiful.

I kind of doubt Washington would pull out of Vermont to get into the Appy league, but I think more and more teams may go to 7 affiliates to keep a bunch of pitching prospects under development.  I wouldn't be suprised to see the Yankees go to 7 teams.

Anyway, I'm sure Pulaski will get a team in some league at some point.  It might be at the expense of Johnson City for example though.  That park was a dump.

i know for a fact that
ottawa will not be a phillies affiliate next season, so that list has at least one error, and most likely many more.

if i had to venture a guess, i'd say that any affiliate who has a deal expire in 2008, means that the affiation could be switched before the 2008 season.

Searching for the Pennsylvania we never found
Actually, the Ottawa franchise will be affiliiated with Philadelphia next season but will be re-located to Allentown. The franchise will remain the same, even if the exchange rate will not.

Vermont
As I understand it, the Nats would only be able to leave Vermont if a replacement was in place... if the Nats leave there would have to be a team ready to step in and move into Vermont.

Appy likely to stay at 9
A source close to one affiliate said that the league president indicated talks with Washington had fallen through.  It doesn't look good for a 10 team Appy League next year.

I hated the crazy schedule they had this year.

Elricsi- did you happen to stop by the Greeneville stadium on your trip through? What did you think?

The Nines
Pulaski is just too nice to stay empty for long.

Yes, I went out of my way to see the Greeneville Astros stadium, but not a game there.  Oh my God!  That is one of the nicest fields I have ever seen, on par with stadiums from much higher levels.  It's on the campus of a local (small?) college, and there must be some rich local alum or something because it was just rediculous.

Sad
Sad news definitely, hopefully some well meaning team not looking to "cut cost" (which is what the Blue Jays said, right before they inked Vernon Wells to that absurd contract and then started a team in the GCL) will explore the possibility of coming to Pulaski.

Also Greeneville has an incredible stadium at Tusculum College.
