Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Mosty a fantasy question, with apologies...

Rickie Weeks versus Carlos Pena for the long term? Real world and fantasy, who would you prefer? Factoring all the pluses and minuses of each, i.e. the scarcity at the position (2nd Base), the lingering wrist issues, Pena's power, questions if this was a one year wonder type of season for Pena, age difference...all the variables...play GM, both real and fanatsy, and tell me who would rather have. Thanks.

I really want to know
If Pena is now the real deal.  I keep hearing that he was pull-happy in the pst and is now hitting the ball to all fields, but the fact that he is 29 now keeps me skeptical.  I know he now has much more leeway then he used to to fight early season slumps, (referring to 2005).  Personally, I think this will be his career year, and while he will post solid power numbers for a few years (around 30 dingers a year) his average will be closer to .250.  That's still a valuable player, but his attrition rate will be much higher than Weeks.

I think that sums it all up nicely.  Pena's season screams fluke to me.  Hey, maybe I'm wrong and next year he'll continue to build on this.  But 29 is pretty late to put it all together, and it's not like Pena hasn't had shots in the past.  Given the choice, I'd probably take Weeks and hope that the wrist injury doesn't cause him to go all Nomar.  (Yup, I said it.)  But Weeks has a much better shot at being a standout at his position than Pena does.
