Ross Detweiler Called Up

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=txnationalsmoves&prov=st&type=lgns

I'll be the first to say THEY'RE RUSHING HIM, HIS CAREER IS OVER!!! Or something.

I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of Detweiler, but I always find it interesting to see how the stuff of pitchers coming almost straight out of college plays against major league level competition.

Any reactions? Personally I often like the idea of getting a guy acclimated to the big leagues from a mental standpoint, but I'm not sure that Detweiler profiles as a good candidate for that kind of exposure. I would've rather they rest him a little and then send him to Hawaii or maybe the AFL after an AA spot-start.

bad idea
what's the point of adding more innings to his arm this year.

I have...
no problem with his innings load this year. Looking at The Baseball Cube, it looks like he only pitched 89 in college, and about 30 in the minors this year. Doesn't seem like an excessive amount.

But what concerns me is just that he doesn't seem ready. He was giving up 10.3 H/9, 2.95 BB/9, while only striking out 5.40/9 in High A. Those numbers don't scream "major league ready" in my book.

But maybe they just want to use him as a LOOGY for this last month. They were aggressive with Zimmerman and it looks like that has panned out pretty well. Maybe they want to see if they can catch lightning twice.

wouldn't stress about it
they probably want to stretch him out a little more for the year so he'll be ready for 150-170 next year. It's big park, and if he is worried about confidence he need look no further then what is "blocking" him in the future to calm his fears.

I doubt he will throw much
This may just be a token call up to let him see what the big leagues are like, he may get a handful of innings out of the pen but I doubt he pitches much at all

honestly
this is one of those instances when who cares about his long term development. its kinda amazing he was called up at all, and i am really curious how he does, if he pitches some innings out of the pen i dont see any harm in that.
