Any word on Andrew Brackman

Hey Yankee fans... last I heard of Brackman, the Yankee's first pick in this years draft was going to the Gulf Coast League.  Now, the $4.55 million man has decided to undergo Tommy John elbow surgery.  I do not know when this is scheduled to take place, but what impact if any do you see this has on Brackman's future as a Yankee?

Brack
I was under the impression that he had already undergone the surgery, but I could definitely be off on that.  I can't imagine it will really effect his prospect status too drammatically.  He'll still be a raw pitcher with tremendous potential when he's rehabbed fully.  The thing that could hinder his development, in my mind, is that he was given a Major League contract, which could rush him through the minors.  A risky move for such an unpolished pitcher.  Should be interesting to watch, though.

Usually
Once surgery is determined to be necessary, it is performed immediately.  There is no reason to wait around - and it's beneficial to get the rehab started as quickly as possible.

Carpenter, Liriano, etc...

Uh
They didn't wait around after surgery was deemed to be necessary.  They attempted to rehab and come back.  While we may have all suspected that surgery was necessary, clearly some doctor prescribed a wait-and-see approach.

nah
Liriano kept going down to surgeons and kept getting opinions.  He wasn't rehabbing.  They finally decided that he should get it even though it was pretty obvious that he would since about a week before when we started learning the nature of the injury.

I believe it was a similar situation with Carp.  It's not that they didn't do the procedure when they first deemed it necessary, it's that oftentimes even though it's pretty obvious to everyone that surgery is necessary, the pitcher will meet with a bunch of surgeons just to make sure.  Basically, you are right, but practically speaking pitchers often wait a while before they get the surgery.

Yankees' first round pick Andrew Brackman, fresh off signing his big league deal last month, had Tommy John surgery two weeks ago. Recovering down in Tampa, he says he is already getting motion back in his elbow and he realizes the workload that lies ahead of him.

They drafted him
knowing he was going to get surgery. I wasn't and am still not too thrilled with the pick, but then again I hated the Kennedy pick. Sigh, so close to Porcello...

I know a player from NC State
My sister actually dates a guy who played at NC State last year.  He knows Brackman pretty well but had this to say about him:  "Hes got all the talent in the world but Ive never seen someones butt-cheeks pucker up as quick as him.  As soon as he fell behind in a count or gave up a couple of hits the guy would disappear.  He just dont have "it"."  [I know its a weird way to put it but I think that sentiment says alot about Brackman]

Now I personally have never seen any of Brackmans starts, but I have to believe the guy who played with Brackman and is playing minor league ball right now.

Also for what its worth, the same kid told me that Kershaw struck him out, as well as seven other teammates with a 98 mph fastball this year when they faced off and probably the sickest hammer curve he's seen.  He compared it to Joba, who he faced in college.

Also,
Before you guys jump on me about Kershaws fastball, that number is according to what their team radar gun had him at.  I asked if he knew that numbers we accurate or if it was fast (inflated readings), and all he could say is that the gun was the gun they used all year and it was prety much dead on every time.  He didnt know if the 98 mph was just once or a hand full of times but that when he came back the guys charting pitches were just smiling at him and told him that the last pitch was 98 and on the black.... Tough nite that nite to hit I guess

All the talent in the world...
Works for me.

As for a teammate that felt his butt puckered up too much....?  Well, there was  a diary for that issue a while back.

Would you rather have a scrub with the right mindset in college or a stud who needed help with his mental approach?

You can't teach a 100 MPH fastball.

Not debating
that... but if a kid just doesnt have that instinct to get the tough out or gut it thru an inning it knocks that pitcher down a few ticks in my book.  Hopefully, though Brackman can prove me wrong
