Gio Gonzalez

What are your thoughts on this guy? He was a top talented prospect before he was traded to Philadelphia, then kinda fell off the board after that. Now that he is back in Chicago it looks like he may have re-established himself as a possible #2 starter, and maybe a top 20 talent. He is 9-7 with a 3.18 ERA in 27 starts this year in AA for the White Sox. 150 IP, 116 H, 57 BB, 185 SO and only 10 HR. He has better control this year, and cut down on the number of HR given up (10 this year compared to 24 last year). He turns 22 on the 19th of this month so he is still young. What do you think?

Does anyone know what his age, height, and weight is? I can't find it on any of the websites I have been to.

Looking Good
I really like him to have a decent career at a minimum in the majors.  He's got quality stuff with a fastball around 94, a low 80's hammer curve (his best pitch) and an improved changeup.

I'm a little worried about consistency.  For instance, his last 50 or so innings this year he had 25 walks.  I'm hoping he was just tired and a little unmotivated as he spent the entire year in AA without a deserving callup (at least to AAA.)

I'm no commie, but the Reds shall be the best again!

Good Prospect
Not too sure when he'll make it to the Majors, though.  From what I've heard, he has some maturity issues.

The stuff is there, if he can put things together he sounds like a solid #2 guy.

gio
time is on his side, though. he's 21 and has already shown a mastery of AA. he could blow out his arm, miss an entire year, come back strong, and still be a very good prospect.

i like gio quite a bit. he throws very hard for a lefty, and seems to have a good handle on his breaking stuff. it's usually a good thing to lead the minors in strikeouts. i think he's a bit like what jeff francis could have been in a system other than colorado's.
