buchholz night finished
7 ip, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 9 k's.  13.86 k/9 and 6.5 k/bb in 25 1/3 triple-a innings now.

AAA
the numbers lincecum, buchholz and chamberlain have put up in AAA this year (though in a very small sample size) are staggering...

in 64.1 IP (Buchholz: 25.1, Lincecum: 31, Joba: 8)

14.4 K/9
2.38 BB/9
5.18 H/9
1.40 ERA

of course joba has very limited innings (and 3 of which are in relief), but the only big difference in rates is Buchholz' ERA (he's given up 9 of the 10 runs combined) because of 3 HR allowed

salt lake update
Magic Santana thru 6 IP, 10 K, 1 ER.

Despite the best efforts of the Angels Front office to stunt Brandon Wood's growth, he seems to be coming out of his most recent demotion slump - 2 for 3 so far with his 18th HR, 1 Run, 1 Rbi and 1 K.

Kendry Morales is 2 for 3 so far as well, up to .313 average. I am still really curious to see how he turns out as a player.

by rhodehead on Aug 6, 2007 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

Wood with another
Wood ended up with 2 HR in the game, 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 4 RBi.

Hmmm
I guess the sky hasn't fallen now that he's been promoted to AA.  Maybe the Marlins saw something by actually looking at the guy instead of just looking at his stats.  Mahalo

Carlos Gonzalez
3-3 with a homer (16) and a walk.  Now up to .286.  I can't believe he's hitting over .280 after his putrid start.

At an 813 OPS now.

In 55 games (208 AB) since June 1:

.313/.373/.567 for a .940 OPS
12 homers 28 XBH
20/43 K/BB

His K and walk ratse in July/August are very respectable...
Bravesin07 is so damn reactionary. I bet when his mother took him to the Dr., his leg kicked before the Dr. hit his knee with the reflex hammer. --slurve

Is that K/BB or BB/K? If it's the former, that's very impressive....

by mraver on Aug 7, 2007 12:38 AM EDT up reply actions

well
I haven't been following Gonzalez too closely, but I think it's safe to say he'll never walk twice as much as he strikes out over any significant period of time.

Braves
Ortegano 5IP H 2BB 8K; Kid doesn't get enough credit.
Cody Johnson 2-5 3K; Too many Ks....

Eric Campbell 0-3 BB; Don't know what to say about him. Solid BB and K numbers (8.8% and 14.4% respectively, which is a major increase in BB), but he's hitting near .200. I guess I'll just chalk it up to Myrtle Beach.
Schafer 1-4 2B K

Loadenthal 2-4 2B K
Isaiah Kaaihue 1-3 BB 2K; Beat goes on....
Ascanio IP 2K

No game for Richmond today.

Ouch Humber...
Tough return from food poisoning that cost him 10 pounds for Humber. Walks are very uncharacteristic of him, but the HR isn't. He could have been next in line for a shot, but the Mets won't need a fifth starter until the end of the month if they take advantage of off-days...

Question:
Where has Desmond Jennings been?

I was hoping he got promoted, but he hasn't seemed to surface anywhere for the last few days.

A Steve Trachsel pitched game moves faster than Pirate management moves their prospects.

of DJ sitting in a red chair...with Dukes standing in front of him, arms outstretched, a red pill in one hand and a blue in the other.

right now Desmond's thinking: "Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill? "

Cabrera Going To Cleveland?
Perhaps not a lot of Buffalo time for Asdrubal Cabrera.  The Indians designated their utility infielder, Mike Rouse, for assignment after last night's game.  That means either Luis Rivas (who has been injured), Joe Inglett (who can't play SS well), or Asdrubal Cabrera will be an Indian by tonight's game.  Since his call-up to Buffalo, Cabrera has been hitting well and playing a utility role, perhaps prepping him for Cleveland...

Matt Mangini
Anybody know what's up with him?  He hasn't played in a while but all the usual sources show him as "active."

Thanks.

Sore lower back
http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20070725/SPORTS/707250339&SearchID=73289529029944

Mangini, Everett's third baseman and second-leading hitter, is headed to the Seattle Mariners' complex in Peoria, Ariz., to rehabilitate his sore lower back. The length of Mangini's rehab stay is still to be determined, but it's possible he won't return to Everett this season...Mangini hadn't played since July 15 because of the sore back, an injury that's nagged him since high school. Since then he's undergone a series of tests to determine the extent of the injury.
