Bravos in '10

C McCann (This is like a given)
1B Teixeira (hey, a guy can dream!)
2B Kelly Johnson
SS Yunel Escobar
3B Chipper Jones
LF B. Jones/someone (Diaz still?) in a platoon
CF Lillibridge? More likely a FA
RF Frenchy

SP Hudson
SP Jo Jo Reyes
SP James
SP FA
SP FA

Pen- Devine, Moylan, and a crap shoot. Maybe Royce Ring is still around.

I do think Chipper will be around to play 3B, but Lillibridge might get moved there if not CF. Also, I still like Eric Campbell, but I don't know if the Braves will be sold on starting him. I do think the Braves will re-sign Tex, even if it's expensive. For LF, I think Heyward is still in the minors. Same for Cody Johnson. Along with the plethora of pitchers. Basically, Atlanta has a top-3 minor league system going into 2010 in my mind. And this is

The biggest problem will obviously be the rotation, and unless Reyes and James take steps forward and Hudson (who I think will sign an extension) doesn't take steps back, we'll see a rather weak rotation.

At least until Hanson and Rohrbough get called up in May. :-D

If I ever get to be the Prime Minister of Great Britain, I am definitely making you the Minister of Silly Walks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqhlQfXUk7w).

Or even better yet http://www.sillywalksgenerator.com/.

I like
Francoeur as the CF replacing Jones. It makes sense, he's already one of, if not the best RF in the game, and his offensive numbers look a lot better as a CF. Cody Johnson in RF in '10 for me.

My turn
Wow, no one sees Eric Campbell in Atlanta, huh?  Well, here's my vote, since the Braves never do anything we expect...how about this:

C  Barrett (they like those Georgia guys)
1B McCann (moved off C to spare wear and tear)
2B K. Johnson
SS Y. Escobar
3B E. Campbell
LF A. Dunn (Lillibridge as centerpiece of deal)
CF T. Hunter
RF Francoeur

SP Hudson
SP James
SP K. Uehara (though posting)
SP Villareal

Campbell
Not sure if you've seen this, or if it really precludes Campbell from making it, but he's been suspended for the rest of the season:

Pelicans 3B Eric Campbell was placed on the suspended list for unspecified disciplinary reasons before Sunday's game and will not play again this season. Campbell, the no.6 prospect in the Braves system at the start of the year, made two trips to the disabled list this year and also struggled with an effort level that could best be described as inconsistent. He was hitting .221 with 14 home runs and 49 RBI in 81 games. This marks the second straight team that Campbell has left early; he was also sent home from his club in the Hawaiian Winter League in the off-season.

Hadn't heard about Campbell
Thanks for posting that. Disappointing to hear.

I didn't have Campbell there because I honestly still think Chipper will be around in 3 years. Sure, he's a candidate for a physical breakdown, but barring that, he certainly hits well enough to still be playing.

Anyhow, I've still got hope for the kid, but I hope they get him out of Myrtle Beach next year.

Chipper
Agreed.  I think he'll be there too.  He already has the 2009 option, and I can't imagine him going anywhere else after that.  I think he'll be with the Braves for his whole career.

Larry
Chipper's been fairly healthy this year, but let's not forget who we're talking about. This is a guy who averaged about 400 ABs the last 3 years running, has an apparently chronic foot problem, and will be 38 in 2010.

Even if he's around, there's really no way on God's green Earth that he's at 3B for the Braves.

T. Hunter
Also, I can't imagine the Braves giving T. Hunter the $18 million he will reportedly be asking for.  I would hope they would throw that money as a starting point in trying to sign Tex.

You're probably right...
...but we shall see.  I'm not saying I think it's the best move in the world, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Braves fill CF by way of a free agent signing, and apparently a lot of other folks in this diary think so too.

So why not Torii?  He's expensive, but the Braves are going to free up some more money.  He's a big splash signing, which the club may need if (as I think they will) they pass on both Andruw and Teixeira.  And they're gonna need somebody in CF as soon as 2008, and there aren't too many of those available in the free agent market.
