Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Joel Guzman promoted by the Rays

He is joining the team today at the Trop with Zobrist going to the DL. While he hasn't exactly earned the spot, the fact that he could play SS helps because the team is currently extremely thin on middle infielders. At 6'6" and 250 lbs, guys might think twice when he is coming down the line to break up a double play :)

yeah
they also might think twice before hitting a ball to the right side of the field.  are they seriously going to play him at shortstop?

I've heard...
Several reports that he is actually quite brilliant at 3b so I guess it isnt that big of a stretch... in a pinch

Its a good question
He's obviously ready.

Probably just as simple as the fact that Guzman has experience at SS and Longoris doesnt. Longoria will be up in about 2 weeks anyways.

Hey
In a division that's seen Troy Glaus manning short in the last year, why the hell not?

Further proof
...that Bobby Cox and John Gibbons must play fantasy baseball.  ;)

If Guzman goes back to SS
his relative value goes up.  He's not much of a hitter for a corner IFer.

Shortstop
I seriously doubt that the DRays have suddenly decided that he's a shortstop, this is just a temporary situation.  Im surprised they didn't call up Longoria - I hope they're not holding him back just for future salary considerations, they have a bad rep for this as a couple of their other players have complained of this kind of stuff already.

Game Winning hit!
Welcome to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Joel!  Hit a walk off single in his first game!

Service Time
isn't really a concern.  He'll most likely be there next year.  I really think they just want to keep him as a rookie.  They did the same thing with Delmon last year.

Maybe
but unless they're planning on keeping him in the minors until next June (which I don't think they are), then service time this year does not matter because he'll burn his first full year next year anyway, still becoming a FA in 13'.

oh yeah....
...watch my ranking him 33 for our 07 lists makes me look god-like now....he just takes zobrist's job outright and never gives it back...and then once Briggy's ready Joel moves to 2B to become the most frightening 2B evah!!!....yyyyeeeeaaaaaah

Do you know what would be funny
If Longoria made the team out of ST, moved Iwamura to 2B and Guzman split time between SS and 1B.

We'd have a 6'6" shortstop and a 5'10" 2B.

Nothing
He didn't get anything hit to him.  He only played 2 innings.
