Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Chris Davis

What do the Rangers have here?  In his first full season in the minors Chris Davis is crushing the ball.  In 114 games between High A and AA, Davis has a line of .304/.354/.602 with 31 bombs and 110 RBIs. The problem is that he has whiffed 138 times to only 31 BB.

Is this kid for real?  What is his ceiling?

Hoping sky is the limit
he is now walking at a 3X rate in AA as a 21 yr old.

same massive power numbers that will shine in The Ballpark

defense seems to be improving as kid is a hard worker.

Grade A
Didn't John give Wood an A after his breakout year?  What would you give Davis after this year?  B+?

Perhaps
the Rangers have a 1B in a couple of years, though he hasn't had a lot of time yet at 3B, which explains the error total there.

I think
you'll have a better indication of his 'limit' now that he's in Double A.  He was playing for Bakersfield in the CAL, which is a notorious 'home' hitter's park, and almost every park in the CAL is considered 'hitter friendly'.  IF he puts up big numbers in Double A, I think he is a legit. 3B option for the Rangers moving forward.

What's encouraging to me
is that even though he experienced a DI program briefly , he cam out of JC. This isn't a guy who played for three years at LSU or Cal St Fullerton. He's gone from JC to killing AA in a little over a year.
