Ian Kennedy to be promoted?

The Yankees are "seriously" considering promoting Ian Kennedy for Tuesday's start against the Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

Kennedy, their No. 1 pick in last year's draft, is a possible candidate to make his major-league debut when the Yankees need a starter to fill in for Roger Clemens. The plan with Kennedy hinges on what happens with reliever Jeff Karstens this weekend. If he was needed in relief last night or today, Kennedy will get the call.

Big Change
Thats a large change to go from relieving one night, to starting all of a sudden. Since Karstens hasn't been needed though, I guess we don't have to worry about Kennedy starting already. Thats incredible though that they would consider starting him already. Two players who were drafted last year making the big club so soon shows the developmental skills that the Yanks have down in the minors (not taking anything away from their pure talent though)

Developmental skills
Or desperation?

I do like that they are allowing these guys to earn promotions as quickly as they have.  I hate the one year one level no matter what theory.

I do think Kennedy should get the start.  I anxious to see him disapprove the redsoxnation/BA crowd and their back of the rotation prediction.

Kennedy's not on the 40
So, they'll have to make a move.  If they can somehow talk San Diego into Igawa, I could see it.  Otherwise, I'm guessing they'll stick with Karstens.

As a Yankee fan and a prospect fan in general, it sure would be fun.

Igawa
San Diego made a waiver claim...the Yankees could just let him go if they wanted.

Karstens
Was not used today, so I would expect he would get the start rather than calling Kennedy up. Though I would not mind seeing Kennedy get a start, just as a "reward" for his excellent performance this season.

I would rather see Igawa then Karstens
Karstens has had a few chances to prove himself this year and every time he got hammered.  I think Igawa, Clippard, Desalvo, or Kennedy would be better options.  I would love to see Kennedy get a chance.

I was watching sportscenter..
and Gammons was on there talking about the Yankees and the young pitchers.  Said that Joba had maybe the best stuff in baseball.  Nothing like getting carried away.  The kid looks good but let's see him throw more than 5 innings before making a statement like that.

He also said
Hughes was throwing 96-97.  Did I miss something?  I could have sworn I saw hit mat 92-93.

To be fair
he may have hit that high on the ESPN guns. They're always quite a few MPH higher than any other gun

gammons
gammons is bravesin07...

gammons always gets hard ons for any young player who isnt completely shitty, i remember a few years back he said chad gaudin would be the next big thing.

I remember
he was in love with Laynce Nix saying how he could be great. Great tools and really hasn't showed he's earned a fulltime job but thats pretty bad too.
