Danny Duffy

Danny Duffy, a lefty, was the 3rd round pick for the Royals this year, and he is absolutely dealing in the Arizona rookie league.  Through 22.1 innings, he's got a 0.40 ERA, 39 K's!!!!, and a BAA of .173.  What do you guys think about this guy? Do you think he can replicate this success or is it a fluke?  Also, what do you guys think of Daniel Cortes.  He came over to the Royals in the MacDougal trade.  He's a 6'5" righty, he's not giving up a lot of hits, 80 hits in 94 innings, and he's got 87 K's in 94 innings, and he's only 20.  Any feedback on these guys would be appreciated.

Some of the best raw stuff from a Californian lefty this year. Low 90s fastball that he can bring up to about 95, high 80s 2 seamer with side movements. Also heard that his slider might one day be a plus pitch. Also has a potentially decent curve.

Now here's the knock on him, his mechanic is a mess, had injury problems in the past, and lose velocity around the mid innings of a game, control isn't that great and he doesn't throw a changeup. Of course it's not hard to see him overcoming those thing since he's only 18.

22.1inning of Arizona league won't get me terribly excited, but he's promising. Maybe a B-/C+ prospect, maybe even a B since it's the Royals system we are talking about.

Daniel Cortes...well, you just have to see for yourself

He said himself that his changeup was his best pitch.

But yea, it's mostly his mechanics right now that are the knock. I think once those are shored up, better command of the fastball will follow.

Cortes
Stud.

Got a low-mid 90's fastball (I've heard different things this year, so not sure exactly). Plus slider (which like Hochevar, they won't let him throw right now). Curve and changeup.

I really like him.
