Jose Martinez

Hello all. I was recently catching up on my prospect "studies" and came across a seemingly unknown name for me. This, of course, being Jose Martinez.

For those who don't know who he is, Martinez is 18 years old (born 7/25/1988) and 6'5". He is currently hitting .357 for Bristol in the Appalachian League, and has 6 HR in 25 games. While this is a small sample size, these numbers do stick out for such a young guy.

For those who are familiar with him...what kind of a prospect is he? It seems like he has the size and power to become a special player, but I cannot say for sure, since I just ran across him.

Keep your eye on him. On the roster we had in the press box for a Burlington Royals series, he was listed as 6' 6", 185 lbs. If that doesn't scream "power potential", I don't know what does. Didn't see a lot of action in RF, but his arm looked strong. Also, he hit two bombs in one of the games. Hopefully the poor BB/K doesn't catch up with him, but he's so young that I'm not worried. Definitely one of the few guys to put an asterisk next to in the Appy League.
