Braves
Against my better judgement I'm going to take Dominic de la Osa from Vanderbilt.  He plays RF there but I will select him as a SS, where he looked good at on the Cape.

Wasn't on the BA top 200 but showed all 5 tools and was top 20 on the cape last year and had a big year at the plate.

I was also thinking of..
Colorado HS 3b Matt Presley
AZ St OFs Tim Smith and Matt Spencer
Alabama HS OF DJ Jones
Louisiana HS C Thad Griffen
IL HS 3b Jake Smolinski
Cali HSer Mike Stanton
Nebraska LHP Tony Watson
former Alabama SS Cale Iorg
..in ROUGHLY that order

most of the high upside HSers, esp arms, were gone before i wanted them today

Thanks John and everyone else for this fun mock draft!

by nms on Jun 3, 2007 6:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

de la Osa
I like this pick. He's not really a guy I see the Braves picking, but he's hit good pitching this year and has been overshadowed by his teammates.

by FI on Jun 4, 2007 1:12 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah
i dont see them going for him either but i was going by the "If I was a Scouting Director what would i do?" school of mock drafting instead of "Who is this team likely to take?" school

Could be a steal...
I really like Jones' game.  I'm surprised he's still around at this point - it seems like everyone bandied his name around in the MODs.

I thought about taking him
at both #129 and #159.

5 tool talent, maybe
but the hitting tools are not that strong.

it was a tough choice
Between him and Harris Honeycutt, but Taylor's power potential was just too intriguing

Since this is just a mock draft...
...let's have some fun with the last pick.

Yanks take Pat Venditte, RHP/LHP, Creighton

Best value in the draft, you get 2 pitchers for the price of 1!

Thanks John, this was alot of fun.

Blogging the Yanks and their farm system.

Thanks from the mock-Cubs
Thanks John for the mock.  Cardinals81 for the opportunity and all the help on the home board from Few, Pickle and UB.

A bunch of Cardinal fans drafting for the Cubs.  I think we did all right by them.

Thanks John
I'd have liked to have a few more early draft picks, but I think I did a reasonable job with the ones that I was able to make.
