Gorkys Hernandez's Future

I'm trying to figure out where he fits in the Tigers future plans.  I'm guessing his best case of scenario is Monroe flames out Granderson shifts to Right when Maybin comes up and Gorky's lands in left.  By this point Sheff should be retired and Maggs should be a full time DH.  From what he's showing is he going to be good enough to start because the outfield of Gorkys, Cameron, and Granderson in the spacious COPA should be incredible to watch.  It would also give the Tigers some much needed speed on the basepaths.  I'm interested to see where others think Gorky's falls into the Tigers plans.

Weekend sweep of the Twins starts tonight.

There is time
Gorkys is only 19, and he is only in A ball so far. I wouldnt be trying to figure out where he fits in just yet. Right now I would be just hoping he makes it to the bigs. He really needs to show some power for me to get really excited about him, he could also use to take a few more walks.

As far as development goes if he makes it to A+ by the end of the year, then he starts '08 in A+ and moves up to AA mid season. Then he starts '09 in AAA and gets a midseason callup, that would probably be best case scenario.

A lot of things could change between now and July of 2009. But to actually answer your question, I think your situation is correct. I assume that is how they would play them. From all I have read Gorkys is the worst fielder of the bunch so hed go to left. That would be a very good outfield, not stacked with power but plenty of speed.

How do you know
he's similar in size and a lot of people were knocking Granderson's power and now look how good he is.

what he's showing
really, after a hot start that got people somewhat excited, gorkys hasn't done much.  he's still a teenager in the midwest league, so almost anything is forgivable, but at the same time he's getting outhit by triunfel, who's even another 2 years younger than him.  (granted triun hasn't played in a month.)  he's interesting, and i understand it's meant as a best-case scenario, but unless you want to risk being CRUSHED BY DISAPPOINTMENT down the line i wouldn't get too attached to the gorkys-led 2010 paws & stripes quite yet.

potential
If he can add some power as he fills out and be a little more patient at the plate he could be good. That being said, he is very raw and it is not a guarantee. I don't want to hear any of the garbage that people were saying about Gomez, that since both he and Sizemore showed little power in the minors, Gomez would hit 25 HRs per year in the majors... not how it works.
