Is it too early to call Drew Stubbs a bust?
The guy is a 22 yo college hitter putting up a line of .243/.338/.351 at low A ball. The fact that he was described as a gold glove defender doesn't mean much with that line. Throw in the 71 Ks in 61 games and I don't have much hope as a Reds fan. The fact that 4 of the next 6 picks were Rowell, Lincecum, Scherzer and Snider just makes it worse. I was not a fan of the pick at the time but now I just outright hate it.

Stubbs
I'm not an advocate of taking toolsy college outfielders that have mediocre production and contact issues in the early first round. If you've played several years of college ball and are still striking out 25% of your atbats by your Junior year that's a very bad sign.
There really isn't a shortage of toolsy kids who can play OF but need plenty of development with the bat. Take a bunch of 'em between rounds 3 and 8 and you could have a few success stories like a Cedric Hunter or a Chris B. Young. But at the top of the draft don't draft an athletic outfielder with a questionable bat. Take a legit bat or high ceiling arm. Hell, the Reds could have had Rowell, Lincecum, Snider, Marrero, Antonelli, etc..

So true.
And lest we forget, before there was Jonathan "the Ox" Broxton, there was converted catcher Brad "The Ox" Oxus. Wonder whatever happened to him.
