Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Chase Headley

Well, it sounds like Headley's going to get sent back down as soon as Kevin Kouzmanoff shows he's ready to play again.  Even so, Chase can't be long for AA.

We've seen an impressive showing of power from Headley this year, something that last year was his biggest deficiency as a prospect.  The way he's mashing this year, he has to be viewed as one of the better prospects in baseball, right?

My question is:  Where does Chase Headley land on your prospect lists at this point?  Is he top-50?  Higher?  I'd be interested in hearing some opinions on this one.

my opinion
he's top 38 material.

then again, i pretty much pulled all those rankings down there out of my ass. but i think he's good enough to be mentioned toward the back end of a top 50.

caveat: i have been known to fall for SNTS in the past, although i try to tone that down when i notice it creeping in.

according to the Padres
he really took the off-season weight training program and put on over 15 lbs. of muscle.  I think we'll continue to see power improvement.  He is certainloy for real.

didn't impress me
last year, i'm sure he has stepped it up a bit this year, but when I saw him last year he only impressed me with his patience.  He definately didn't strike me as an everyday MLB and would be  a little surprised if he beats out Kouz
