Here's some highlights from yesterday's first round College WS games:
Pat Venditte, Creighton, switch pitcher- 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K! Venditte keeps putting up very interesting lines. Could he be for real?
Todd Frazier, Rutgers- 2 for 4, 2 2B.
David Newman, LHP, Texas A&M- 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 K. Newman is somebody to look at in the late supplemental round or early second round in the draft.
Duke Welker, Arkansas- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K. Watch out for Arkansas! Does any college team have a better trio of starters than Nick Schmidt, Welker and Jess Todd?
Matt Langwell, Rice- 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K. Langwell is a guy I haven't heard too much about. Did not play last year. Stocky RHP, 6'2", 225 lbs. 7-1, 1.73, 73 IP, 26 BB, 50 K. He's a Jr. I'm guessing he will stay in school.
Daniel Moskos, LHP, Clemson- 8 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K.
Wes Etheridge, RHP, UC Irvine- 8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 10 K. Another guy you don't hear much about. Could he be as high as a supplemental round pick with the paucity of college RHP's this year? 12-4, 2.68, 117.1 IP, 28 BB, 107 K's.
James Simmons, RHP, UC Riverside- 7.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K's. Not one of Simmons' best lines.
Travis Banwart, RHP, Wichita State- 1.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K. Uh-oh. That line doesn't look good for a front line starter!
Tyler Weber, C, Wichita State- 4 for 4, 2B. Teams looking for catching help might consider Weber in rounds 3-5.
Anybody have the Texas boxscore? I couldn't complete the link from ncaa-baseball.com.
