How will Clippard do today
I think he's going to be shelled because the Mets are starting to hit the ball hard except for Delgado and look for the speed demons Reyes and Gomez to create havoc again.

by Bravesin07 on Jun 16, 2007 12:12 PM EDT reply actions

looks like I was right
Clippard and his 6.33 ERA will be sent down for sure tonight.  He is too much like Yusemiro Petit a guy who has deceptive stuff but it's not good enough for the Majors.

this one maybe
but damn good thing A Gord wasn't sent down. He is adjusting quite well to ML pitching these days

I don't think Gomez should be sent down
2-4 with another stolen base. Average is up to .265 and is hitting .330 this month.

....and
back to the subject at hand. Gomez is unequal to Gordon

His average is up
but he isn't smashing the ball, a lot of infield singles.

Yeah but he hit a lazer off of Rivera in the 9th
Made Rivera throw about 9 or 10 pitches in the AB working an 0-2 to a 3-2.  He's improving, remember Alex Rios hit one homerun in 426 AB as a 23 year old rookie.  Rios and Crawford as Gomez comps and he's much faster than Rios.  He bats almost like Rios.  Rios is an all-star outfielder this year.  Looks for Gomez to develope his power in 2 or 3 years and began putting up 20-25 HR a season with 50 steals.  I think Milledge is going to be traded, though the Mets should wait until the winter.

by Bravesin07 on Jun 16, 2007 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't
see him hitting 25 homers in a season, more around 15.  Kind of like last years Jaun Pierre with a more pop.  Thats still a pretty good player.

by nyy601 on Jun 16, 2007 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

He's 6'2-6'4
He'll grow into his Power like Rios and Crawford did.  Crawford only hit 2 HR his rookie year in 259 AB. nyy601 your just mad because he will be a far superior player to Melky Cabrera.

by Bravesin07 on Jun 16, 2007 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions

wow he 6'2
I guess if you go by that Randy Johson should be hitting about 60-70 homers a year.  If you go by how tall someone is to look at power potential, half the majors would project to hit 25 homers.

Willy Taveras is 6' and Jimmy Rollins is 5'8.  I guess that in your book Taveras has more power potential than Rollins, huh?

by nyy601 on Jun 16, 2007 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

And Gomez isn't wiry?
I guess you only see what you want to see.  Gomez only weights 175, thats very skinny for someone 6'2.  He might put on a few pounds, but unless he juices up he will never be big.

by nyy601 on Jun 16, 2007 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions

MLB has him at 6'4 195
I don't know which one is right Baseball Prospectus has him at 6'2 175.  If he's a legit 6'4 and people question that, he could become Rios in a few years.

Does anyone know if Shane Lindsay is out for the season?

by mckeeno on Jun 16, 2007 12:51 PM EDT reply actions

welp
I asked this late yesterday, and thought it might generate some good discussion, so I'll put this out again...

Who's the better fantasy play,

Josh Fields
or
Chase Headley?

Jay Bruce can DISAPPEAR

by ufoboy90 on Jun 16, 2007 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

Interesting
...Id have to say "Fields", not knowing which "fantasy" you speak of.

Interesting because of most the ways Headley would have an edge wouldnt matter in fantasy...better plate discippline, defense(?), offense relative to park, etc.

I may like Headley better as a player but Fields can hit homeruns, steal bases, has a little bit of expeerience last year and has a clearer shot than Headley in a great place to hit. If it is just this year especially, go with Fields.

by casejud on Jun 16, 2007 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmm...
I think part of depends on your league.  If it's a single season league, I think Fields is the easy choice since the 3B job should mostly be his with Crede apparently out for the year.  If it's a keeper/dynasty league I'd lean more towards Headley.  I think he'll be the better hitter long term, while Fields might flash more power.

David Price: Ego Monster?
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070615&content_id=260464&vkey=news _milb&fext=.jsp

"I'd love to sign tomorrow," Price said. "I'm ready to sign and get going and playing. I have no news yet because I haven't spoken to my adviser [Bo McKinnis]. If you ask me where I should start, I have the confidence to start in the big leagues right away and be a Cy Young Award winner. That's just how I carry myself."

It's one thing to be confident, but to suggest that he might compete for a Cy Young "right away"?  Seems a little much to me...

by knightgalt on Jun 16, 2007 3:33 PM EDT reply actions

well
saying he has the confidence to compete for a Cy Young does seem like a little much but so does calling him an "ego monster".  He is probably just getting tired of being asked this same question.

by kaisertown on Jun 16, 2007 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Ego Monster
You'll note that I included a question mark after the "ego monster" reference. I'm not saying he is, but it was a rather egotistical remark, I think. I realize that these guys, particularly the top few picks, probably get asked 100 questions a day by the media.  Occasionally they will say something that may not come out right. But it does seem a little foolish for him to be placing himself in the upper echelon of AL starters before he even steps on the field.

I don't know a lot about Price's "make-up" as John has been discussing of late, but if this remark actually reflects how he thinks about himself, he may have a rude awakening in the bigs.

by knightgalt on Jun 16, 2007 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

confidence
There is a difference between confidence and cockiness. I think this kind of statement shows that he has confidence in his stuff (which he should).

At least thats how I read it, not a big deal at all really.

Mid-season prospect list
Sorry if this has been mentioned, but are we going to try to do a mid-season community prospect list?  Determining eligibility would be a pain in the ass but we could figure out a decent system.

It would be interesting to see what players everyone thinks is climbing the charts the most.  I guess an alternative to running a complete list would be a diary that discusses who didn't make the top 100 or 150 last season but will this year.

Brandon League
any chance he gets thrown into the TOR closer mix when he returns and proves his health?

by JohnR on Jun 16, 2007 5:20 PM EDT reply actions

I wouldn't see why not
League was great in relief for the Jays last year, and he'd seem to be a logical choice to get some save chances.  The injury to BJ Ryan might have been a blessing in disguise as guys like Jeremy Accardo, Jason Frasor, Brian Tallet, and Casey Jansen have stepped up and pitched well this year.  Throw in a healthy Ryan and League next year and the Jays pen could be the strongest in their division.

yep
or accardo could be traded for quite a bit if he keeps this up.

Yeah they could trade for a Legit SS
Trade Accardo to the Indians for Astubal Cabrera.

Just wondering.

Aaron Cunningham
What can anyone tell me about him?
Diamondbacks just got him for Danny Richar

by AZDBACKS on Jun 16, 2007 7:33 PM EDT reply actions

wow
first the D-Backs steal Chris Young from the Sox, now this...Cunningham isn't as good as Young, but he is a legit prospect, good power-speed guy with solid hitting skills and plate discipline...he had to have been considered one of the Sox top 5 prospects, and probably had a chance to end the year as their best...i just don't see how this makes any sense from the Sox perspective...although admittedly i don't know a whole lot about Richar

Joba
When is Joba the Hut starting in AA?

by Robinson Checo on Jun 16, 2007 9:47 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe tomorrow.
He'd be starting on regular rest tomorrow, but I don't know exactly how the rotation lines up.

So probably tomorrow, maybe the next day.
