Who do you select? (fantasy question)

Keeper Strat-o-matic league and it's my turn to pick. I'm weak at 3B and SP, and could use more depth possibly at 2B and SS. Even so, I don't necessarily need anyone to help out right away. Basically, I'm looking for the top impact guy somewhere down the line. I don't need outfielders at all, but Bruce and Maybin are also available.
Explain why you prefer somebody below the poll.

Help right away, or later down the road?
That would really be the question, to me.  If you are thin at 3B, and LaRoche is available, then I might take him - he's got a fine chance of having an all-star career, has proved himeself at a higher level than anyone here, and is at one of the Need positions you have identified.

In terms of raw celing, you might put Bruce first...but LaRoche can still hang with him, is closer to the Show, and fills a need for you.

With the way prospect ratings wax and wane (remember Andrew McCutcheon last year?), LaRoche is just one hot streak from topping this list.

Either
Just looking for the guy with the highest ceiling, but would prefer it to be 3B or SP.

For Fantasy
I'd have to say Wieters. There are AT MOST 5 good catchers in fantasy baseball. IMO, Martinez, Mauer McCann, Posada, with Tex and Pudge and Barret Trailing. Its very hard to find an impact player at Catcher. SP gets hurt a lot, 3B is the most stocked position in baseball. And the SS Brignac, who I own, has been down this year so far. For me If Wieters signs he is a no brainer in fantasy sports for a team without a top catcher.

well
I'd consider Russell Martin a good fantasy catcher.
Morrow is the Sea Diamond.

for impact
not antonelli - don't see him hanging with most of this list for upside.  not villalona, because we haven't seen enough yet.  not porcello or parker, becuase too much can go wrong with fresh-drafted high school pitchers compared to some of these guys.

and i'm even going to say not laroche, because i don't see him hanging for upside either.  i think he'll be a solid player, but he's a guy i think has been riding a vaguely inflated reputation as a future 40-homer guy based on a hot year in the low minors a few years ago.  (see brandon wood, ian stewart.)  maybe i'm wrong but i don't smell star there.

and from your addendum - not maybin.  i think people are getting carried away with the athleticism there.  torii hunter's a fantastic athlete too.

that leaves: price, wieters, brignac, rowell, vitters.  bruce.

price sounds great but it's hard for me to take a pitcher while leaving this caliber of hitting on the table.  just my personal philosophy.  if you decide to go pitching, he's your guy.

given your parameters (prefer 3B or SP) i'd say rowell, except he might not stick at 3B.  of course vitters' defense hasn't drawn raves either.    my general feeling is rowell and bruce are the hitters out of this lot.

. . . agreed
If you are looking for high impact ceiling, Price is the guy you want.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.

Price
