Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

fair comparison?

Lets pretend like Billy Butler never puts it together in the field. Would you say he can project as a DH like Edgar Martinez? I know some think he CAN become Manny, but is Martinez a more likely projection?

i think so
Especially the 25 to 30 homers a year.  He will have a hard time living up to Martinez's other categories.  He was a career .312  .424  .939 hitter.  Butler's peak might be a little better than the career averages of Martinez, but Martinez had 6 years between 1995 and 2000 where he hit an average of .332 and never had an ops below .997.  It's hard to imagine Butler compiling those kind of numbers, but I wouldn't bet against him having a comparable career.

+1 I like the Edgar Martinez comparison.
Those are some lofty averages that he's going to have put up to live up to the comparison, but I think he could put up comparable power numbers with a solid avg.

Personally
I see Butler's power potential as MASSIVE. I think he may...again may... perform as a hitter as kind of a combination of Manny and Edgar. I guess manny can do everything Edgar could do at the plate but, Edgar struck out less.

i just think Butler's great seasons will lokk like edgars but, with maybe 10-20 less walks and 10+ more homers. He's that good IMO.
