Jason Bergmann

Do people have any thoughts on this kid? John's remark mid-season last year was "probably league-average in middle relief", but he's been quite a bit better than "league average", and as a starter to boot.

Moreoever, he's faced some of the best the NL has to offer, starting against Atlanta, Philly twice, and the Mets, with his worst (and only bad) outing coming in his 2007 debut against the Diamondbacks. Since then, he's struck out 1 per inning and allowed only 6 ER and 11 hits in 25.1 IP.

So could Bergmann confound his minor league numbers and become a solid, ML pitcher?

Bergmann
I saw Bergmann last year both live (great seats too, right behind home plate in the 5th row of Diamond Club at RFK) and on TV a few times.

He got bombed more times than not and looked incredibly hittable.

The fastball wasn't anything special and his offspeed stuff was very inconsistent. He got booed off the field at RFK.

Unless a lot changed, which I doubt, he's just getting lucky right now and will regress.

I agree wth 'youALREADYknow'...
...despite his current track record, there's a reason why none of the 'better-known' prospect-gurus have rated this guy high/have them on their radars.  Wait a month (or two), and we'll see what Mr. Bergmann's stats are like.  I expect he'll regress...something along the lines of below league average.
