Wood or Gordon?

In lieu of the Angels-Royals game today, which features two of the game's best young third basemen I must ask the question; Who would you rather have, Brandon Wood or Alex Gordon? Both are struggling early this season but definitely have time to turn it around. Gordon is superior in average and plate discipline, while Wood has more raw power. And by all accounts both are good defenders at the hot corner. This is a tough one for me to pick.

Wow
So far six people have taken Wood over Gordon...I didn't even think it would be that close...

"in lieu of"
that actually means "instead of" or "in place of", not "in light of" or "on the occasion of" as you seem to be using it here.  just FYI.

I thought that this question....
....was just going to take the place of today's game. In which case the Angels are screwed.

Ha
Turns out they were screwed anyway, they got 3-hit.

Royals pride!

yea that confused me for a sec too.
harmless though.

I think you'd have to take Gordon at this point just based on what he has done and the fact that Wood seems like hes teetering on Russ Branyan territory.

Thanks.
I appreciate the correction. This poll is a landslide.

Wood isn't Branyan yet
though I don't think he'll be good.  Think a less powerful Troy Glaus.  Gordon will be good soon, he's starting to draw walks and the hitting will come.  Texiera struggled too at first I think.

i'll take gordon
sure he's hurt now, but i think at the end of the year he'll have more saves than wood. it's not even obvious wood will get the closer job in chicago if/when he is healthy; and even if he does get it, he then has to actually be somewhat effective. gordon has proven that he can still close and the phillies don't really have a reasonable alternative (unless you count brett myers, which would be a colossal mis-use of resources).

Billy Butler?
Strictly offensive potential...what about Gordon, Wood or Butler?

One can make a case for Butler first. Gordon's ability to swipe a few bags probably gives him a slight edge, but its real close between all three of these guys. I still am on the boat that thinks Brandon Wood is going to be a very valuable player, his power is special.

can and do
i'd absolutely take butler first of those three, purely as a hitter.  BA people have also said that.  if you're including baserunning as part of offensive potential, then... uh... ok, still butler, but... yeah.
