Dustin McGowan

CBS Sportsline reports:
Replacing Gustavo Chacin (elbow) in the rotation will be right-hander Dustin McGowan, who will be called up from Triple-A Syracuse. With the Chiefs, McGowan is 0-2 but with a 1.64 ERA. In 22 innings, McGowan, the Jays' No. 1 pick in the 2000 draft, has 29 strikeouts. In parts of two seasons with the Jays, McGowan has gone 2-5 with a 6.69 ERA in 29 games, including 10 starts. Josh Towers will remain relegated to middle relief.
(Updated 05/01/2007).

So I guess my question is, with 6 years of minor league service and a couple of short stints in the major leagues, what can be expected of McGowan? He's only 24 mind you.

Thanks a lot guys.

If he's not walking people...
expect great things. Otherwise, well, just look at his other ML numbers.

I just don't know...
He kind of facing a very good hitting team in Cleveland, so I really don't think that this would be the best situation for him to begin. I'm also kind of worried about his walk rate and his pitch efficiency. Everything else is pretty good. I don't think that he's ready yet. A month or two extra in the minors would have done nothing but good for his development. I think that JP and Co are rushing this again. I really hope that I'm wrong.

I expect
him to get hammered in 2 starts, and then get sent back down. He needs a change of scenery.

I disagree
I'm not saying he's going to throw a shutout, but I feel like most of his control issues can be explained by the "injury" and him try too hard to prove he belongs.  He's had some good outings in AAA this year which makes me believe he has gained some control.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him do quite well.

McGowan
He's had TJ surgery, was  recently diagnosed with diabetes, and now for the first time he's basically at full speed.

I'm cautiously optimistic for the long term, but after Fenway, Cleveland is probably the worst place for him to be making his first start of the year.

He has great pure stuff, but command has always been the issue.
