Mock Scouting Director Assignment Thread

Scouting Director Assignments

If you want to be a scouting director, ask in the comment thread. I will update the main thread to indicate who each director is. Once you see your name on the list, please start a Mock Organization Diary, titled MOD: Yankees or MOD: Brewers or whatever your team is.

Remember, you MUST be available for the Mock Draft on Sunday, June 3, at 2:00 PM central time.

Duties of the Scouting Director include managing the conversation in the MOD Diary threads. This is a collaborative effort. I don't want you to run your threads like a dictator, but approach it like you are really a scouting director and the other participants are your scouts, farm analysts, etc. Each scouting director should have a deputy to run the draft if the SD has to step away or cancel at the last minute.

Question?
Might seem obvious if this were a real draft but, are we allowed to participate in other teams discussion on picks? Probably not, I assume but, I just wanted to ask.

Question
Does anybopdy know where I can find a list of all the people eligible for the draft? Scouting Reports would be nice too...

by Matt Gaul on May 16, 2007 4:46 PM EDT reply actions

list
baseball america and pgcrosschecker are two very good websites, but you have to pay.

brewerfan.net is a good free site and it has a lot of player pages.

milb.com also has scouting reports and videos on several prospects.

bravesin07 may have off the wall comments in many other areas, but he is way underprepared on his own system and team...having him run a mock draft would be like allowing steve phillips to gm a major league team again....

Thanks for taking the Indians - greatly appreciated!  I'm not sure I can make the draft (right now, I don't think so,) but I'll try to help whereever I can - please feel free to email me at jchengeryATgmail.com (replace AT with @.)

Also, I made a post about the Indians' drafting philosophy in your MOD thread - you can access the post here.

by fewgoodcards on May 17, 2007 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions

hmmm...collusion?
A Cards fan picking for the Cubs?

I would have requested the Cubs if I had the time, but just my 2 cents, pick Wieters if he is available.

Cardinal31
I have to admit when I was looking at the post and saw the screen name of cardinal31 as the draft expert for the beloved Cubs, I thought collusion as well.  I'll have to wait and see if this draft expert has the knowledge to draft Josh Vitters.  The proof will be in the pudding then.

by dmcclure on May 17, 2007 1:40 PM EDT reply actions

I was hoping the cubbies would grab
Vitters over Wieters, but at this point, they're going to need to replace Barrett in a few years, and they don't have any very good, potentially great C's in the Organization.  Then again, Wieters could outgrow (gain weight, lose quickness) the C position and move to OF or 1B...
Lincecum is the truth!

by JT12340 on May 17, 2007 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions

He's no catcher
Some have compared him to Craig Wilson, but the Cubs have moved him out from behind the dish to the OF.

by wibadger on May 17, 2007 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

And beyond
Looks like he is also playing the infield corners.

by cooper7d7 on May 18, 2007 9:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Cubs/Cardinals
First off, yes I will still help with the Cardinals.  At least I'll try.

Second, I plan on taking the player most Cub fans want.  Vitters, Wieters, whoever.  It's not like I'm actually destroying the real Cubs here by going way off the board.

With that said, #1 on my list is a 5'3", 205 RHP from Alaska that sits 44-46 MPH with no secondary pitches.  He might last til the supplemental 1st round, but I don't think I will be able to pass on him in the 1st round.

by UncleBuck44 on May 17, 2007 11:52 PM EDT reply actions

Orioles
If no one else wants to step up for the Orioles, I could take them on as well.  My only worry is that BAL/WSH back-to-back at #5/6 and in the later rounds may be considered a conflict of interest.  In any case, I'm sticking strictly to a "best player on my board" draft strategy.

With a measly 3 picks in the first five rounds, I can see why they're not too appealing.  Luckily, the Birds have pretty much the same needs as the Nationals - specifically, people who hit, throw, and maybe even catch a baseball.

by birdtown on May 18, 2007 10:37 AM EDT reply actions

orioles
Sorry, I think that having two people run the same team is not a good idea.

I will handle the Orioles myself unless someone else steps forward.

by John Sickels on May 18, 2007 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions

John
I agree with you - I just hate to see it go un-manned.  BTW, see "MikeE"'s reply around the middle of the thread.  The position may be filled :)

by birdtown on May 18, 2007 1:27 PM EDT reply actions

Orioles
I'll take the Orioles job John. I've been writing about them all season long and I think this will be really fun.
