Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Fransisco Pena

Another VERY young phenom in the works? He's 17 and he's already listed 6'2 239 on the team site(fatty!?) and is a catcher in full season ball. To be fair his weight is listed around 200 everywhere else, but that is what the team site says. Pictures I have seen make me believe it's the latter. The Mets were considering putting him at high A to start the season but are just playing him in full season ball and he's off to a wicked start, 6-9!

Did anyone see him this spring or have any reports on him? Might be someone who shoots up the rankings into the top 50 if he has a year like Martinez did.

No way he is eve close to that unless he ate a blimp after the first workouts of the spring.

he really isn't that big
240 he seems like he could be that size. Maybe even lighter. Personally i don't care if he gets his weight up to 280 as long as he is healthy and mobile as a catcher.

No way he's a catcher at that size
He's going to have to move to 1st and I think he'll be tradebait down the line.

huh?
How do you project a 17 year-old in his first season as future trade bait?

In those pics
he looks 215, max.  The only way he's 240 are if he's actually 6'6", or if he has so much muscle under there that he just weighs a lot more than he looks like, but his face is a little pudgy, so I doubt it.
Will Eli be showering in Evian at last?

+1
Reading reports of him being 240ish, I was concerned, but he looks pretty sleak in those photos.  He doesn't look any fatter than Yadier, and is certainly slimmer than the other catching Molinas.  I'm not worried about it right now, but if he keeps growing he's going to have to move to first.  Given who his fatehr is, I think he'll figure out a way to stay at catcher.

If he can rake he can rake
I also foresee a move to first, but that being said. That's more because of his height than weight. I say he peaks at 6-5 275, which is not bad. I think we're overreacting just a little with this
