Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Wood's Up

Brandon is on the way.  The Angels are calling up Brandon Wood today and sending down Kendry Morales.  Juan Rivera is moved to the 60 day DL to make room for the move.

Are they going to play him everyday?  How do you guys think he'll do?

Personally, I think he's going to struggle this year.  He'll show some pop, but if he stays up all season, I'd be surprised to see more than a .250 average this season.  I think he'll be good long term, but not this year.

.250 this year wouldn't be all that different from what i think he'll do every year.

i think he'll be up for a while and get a good amount of playing time.

A Very Short Stay
Wood was called up to give the team a little bit more depth in the infield, during a stretch in which the team has very few days off.  Next week, after Figgins has completed his rehab assignment, Wood will probably be sent back to SLC.

The score is misleading
The Angels score 11 runs and you'd think Wood would have had some fairy tale start to his career after seeing the line.

He went 0-4 with 2 K.

I'm suprised this topic doesn't have more responses, Wood was argubly the best position player still down in the minors.

Wood
Just my opinion, but I think Wood is going to disappoint. I am in the "If he cannot make contact against minor league pitching he will be exposed by major leaguers" camp.

I know he has monster power, but for some reason my gut feeling says this guy will never make enough contact to be a star. My absolute best case scenario would have him being Troy Glaus offensively (which is very good, but not elite) but I do not think he will even do that.

Just my take, I know there are many people who really like him and I respect that.

Glaus
I think if you told the angels that Wood would become Troy Glaus, they would sign for that without a doubt.
