Joey Votto (struggling)

at what i thought was the best 1B prospect in the game and a good bet to go 25-20 in the bigs has struggled in the early going this year

 his line:

49AB's 7R 8H 1HR 7RBI 10BB 17K 1SB 2CS .328.286.614
is this early going struggles? is he overmatched in AAA? can any cincy homers sign in and give some type of explanation for a good looking 1B prospect.

Not a Reds Fan
but it's still too early to worry.  If he had 3 bad weeks in June, you'd never hear about.  Since it happened at the start of the season, it gets magnified.  Mahalo

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Way too early to worry
Its 49 ab's. Btw 10 walks is nice. No reason reason to have much concern.

+1
I saw that too, not bad, and only 17 k's (if I remember seeing)... Could be worse.

same as last year
Votto started slow last year and was considered a flop after a less than stellar previous year.  He turned it on in the summer and became a great prospect again.  Patience is rather obviously in order.

Joey has been rather unlucky
all across the board. Compared to last year his ground balls are going for hits 8% fewer, his fly balls are going for hits 12% fewer and his line drives are going for hits 40% fewer. Joey is hitting line drives, and they just arent falling for hits yet. only 39% of his line drives have gone for hits this year, and last year that number was 79%. Hits are going to start falling for him, he just has been ridiculously unlucky. I normalized his numbers if his GB, FB and LD's were going for hits at the same rate they were last year and he would be hitting .282/.429/.435 if all the extra hits he had only went for singles. It is a case of a real small sample and some bad luck playing a big part.
