Chase Wright to get the call

After Mussina and Pavano go to the DL, ESPN's Steve Phillips just reported that Chase Wright will get the call over Hughes because the minor league director indicated that Wright was "better prepared to succeed right now."

Uh, better prepared than the best pitching prospect in baseball?  Then why IS he the 'best' pitching prospect in baseball?  I understand there are issues with the logistics of bringing Hughes in for three starts then sending him back down, or the problem of using up his options and ruining his psyche or some other excuse.  However, I don't see how the move based on that statement is the correct one.

I just hope
they don't call Hughes up before you can make an arguement that he's reasonably ready - and I don't think that arguement can be made for at least 3-5 weeks.  He needs to have more than just a couple of decent starts strung together.

I agree, Hughes need to refine his change up
and improve his overall command. As for Chase wright, he's basically a lefthanded version of Tyler clippard with slightly better stuff. His change up is one of the best in the minors and hopefully since he's hot right now, he can continue it into his first ever Major League start.

All and All not a good day for Yankee fans. But hey look at the bright side, at least Andy pitch well today.

Wright and Clippard
I'm glad you've been reading BPro, but Chase Wright is not "basically a lefthanded version of Tyler clippard with slightly better stuff".

Wright and Clippard
Fabian, I'm glad you're a scout who can belittle the BPro staff.

"Chase Wright, FSL pitcher of the year, has a great curve and little else. He`s bullpen bound."

His worst pitch is the curve. solidddddd

this is brain surgery
Wright this season: 14 IP - 4 H - 1 BB - 19 K - 0.00 ERA in AA
Hughes this season: 10 IP - 9 H - 4 BB - 7 K - 6.30 ERA in AAA

Hughes is starting slow while Wright is coming out of the gate incredibly hot

I think there are other reasons too
Wright is due to pitch on Tuesday, while I don't think Hughes is.  In addition, Hughes isn't on the 40 man roster, and Wright is.  They would probably prefer to not risk losing somebody on the 40-man roster by promoting Hughes (such as Bean or Kennard).

Actually....
Hughes is scheduled to pitch Tuesday.  But, I agree that leaving him in Scranton right now is the best thing.

I stand corrected then
but the 40-man status is something worth considering, as is Wright's recent dominance (while Hughes has struggled a little).  Regardless, Wright won't be up long.

40-man roster
I read where that Wright being on the 40-man roster and his hot start of the season were the reasons he is being brought up.  The pitchers in AAA aren't on the 40-man roster, so it's much easier to bring Wright up for a start or two.
