Coutlangus

This Coutlangus kid (actually he's 26) looks like he can deal.  I'm watching him throw vs. the Cubs this afternoon.  John gave him a C and mentioned he'd be a useful spare part in the bullpen.  I'm thinking he looks more like a LH specialist.  He had a .185 BAA in 63 innings for AA last year.  5.7 H9 - Anybody have any history on him and why the Giants gave up on him?  His numbers suggest there may be some wildness and age wasn't on his side.  Just curious.

Giants
don't have him anymore bc they were stupid. Kid couldn't hit, but he can throw. They only gave him a year as a pitcher, then left him unprotected what I understand. Remember, always protect your Coutlangus

Giants didn't give up on him
The Giants didn't give up on him, they just didn't juggle the 40 correctly.  The higher ups in the scouting department were clamoring for him to be protected(after just a season in high A) and so he was added to the 40. But they later had to drop him for a player(end of bench or rotation type) who they wanted on the 25 man roster.

Here's a scouting report from the old calleaguers guy.  IMO the Giants should have gambled on someone being able to keep a lefty on the 25man for the whole year with a year and high A and barely being reacclimated to pitching.

Cutter
Trevor Wilson, an old Giants lefty who was the pitching coach at San Jose when they converted Coutlangus to pitcher, taught him a cutter and it is a very nasty little pitch that may carry him to a MLB bullpen job.

Cincy benefits from very clumsy roster management by the Giants.  They didn't want to lose him!

Not may carry him to a MLB bullpen
It did. He has been with the Reds from day 1 this season and he pitched GREAT today when the Reds really needed him to.

Good for HIm
I'm very happy for him.  Giants could use him a lot more right now than whoever they bumped him from the 40 man for- Todd Greene? Jose Vizcaino?  What a joke!
