Poll: When will Lincecum make his first start for SF?
Tim Lincecum was awesome for Fresno again last night. With the wind blowing out at 25mph, he threw seven innings, giving up no runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out nine, threw 87 pitches, 57 strikes, with 8 groundball outs and four flyball outs.
This followed a completely dominant first start, in which he struck out nine in five innings.
His only competition is the thoroughly spent Russ Ortiz and the Giants are going to need to drum up some fan excitement given their lackluster team.
AAA appears to be little challenge. When will they bring him up?

Of course, the Giants SHOULD feel they have to take a shot at contending this year. I don't think they would have bothered to resign Bonds otherwise. And if they are trying to contend this year, then they have no excuse for not putting their best 25 guys out on the field, right now. Half-assing it is a great way to make sure your team doesn't even come close to the playoffs.
I doubt we're going to learn anything more about Lincecum's "readiness" from more minor league starts. They might as well get him up . . .they don't need to stick him in the rotation immediately. If they want, they can let him get his feet wet in the pen for a little while - he'd be of use there as well, most likely.

see Exhibit A & B
Minnesota was lambasted for signing them and not playing Garza. I do think one of them will be terrible this year. But for now they are pitching well and giving Garza some time to be ready and from what I hear he needs it.
With Lincecum it is less if he needs it and more that he spent no time against quality competition so it was hard to see where he is at. In the early going it looks like he's ready.
