Renyel Pinto

I just picked this guy up late in a draft based solely on the stat page: 24 years old; 6'4", 195 lb. lefty, which sounds like a pitcher; and a pretty good line in hitter-friendly Albuquerque (8-2, 3.40, with 96 K and only 8 HR in 95 IP.)  In 30 major league innings, he had a 3.03 ERA and struck out 36.  However, control seems to be a big issue (4.4 BB/9 at AAA, 8.2 in the majors.)

I have not seen him pitch, nor have I really heard much about him.

Anyone have any insight on Pinto?  What's his timetable, and how good does he figure to be in the long run?

no timetable
he's been in the majors... this will be his third season... originally a cub with a high ceiling but never got his walks under control... somehow got to the royals and had a very good year as a set up man, then a very average year and is now with the white sox.... he does have some good stuff from the left side and will put up some k's but he shoulnd't be propsect eligable in any leagues. if you want some holds he's not bad if you want a prospect find someone else.

you're...
... thinking of Sisco, not Pinto :)

It's a sim league, so I don't need wins, holds or saves -- just good pitching -- and I can keep him forever if I want.  Just looking for any insight beyond the statlines that anyone might have.

and boom goes the dynamite.

You have him pegged
Good stuff, will get K's, has problems with control.  Dumb me actually had him rated as a top 75 prospect a few years back.  Still could be good, but he's most likely a setup man with the Marlins.
Will Eli be showering in Evian at last?

Why a setup man?
Shouldn't he be a starter if he walks too many people?, i wouldn't like a reliever that comes with the bases loaded and starts giving walks.

Pinto
Pinto doesn't have exceptional, blow-away stuff, so he's very hit and miss at times, and if his control is off, then he'll struggle.  I think his best case scenario is as an effective 5th starter, but he could be more of the Neal Cotts variety as a lefty spot starter, pen arm, long man type, assuming he sticks in the bigs.
