Adam Jones on 25 man roster???

Is Adam Jones making the Seattle Mariners as a back up OF'er of will he be sent down to AAA before Opening Day on Monday. As bets as I can see, he still is with the Mariners right now, but I know he did not have a great spring training and I am not sure how much time he would get if he stays with the big club. Thanks for the help.

There's been pretty much zero talk of him making
the club. He'll be Tacoma's everyday centerfielder this year.

Agreed
If last year showed anything, he needs more AAA seasoning....

Did you mean Morrow?
Because that's the only "minor leaguer that needs more time in the minors but is breaking camp with the big club" story I've heard.

Funny
Jeremy reed got sent down too. I wonder does he play LF?

Why do the same people who get irate when when I say Mike Cameron is a pretty darned good comparison player fpor Chris Young also think Young is a better prospect than Adam Jones?

Probably because . . .
Chris Young is a much, MUCH better prospect than Adam Jones. Jones shows the potential to be decent. Young shows the potential to be a superstar.

Which scouting reports...
Are you reading?  I've heard Chris Young's comp ceiling as Eric Davis.  I've heard the same thing about Adam Jones.  But one's a superstar and the other is to be decent?

B+ prospects, by John's ratings, aren't "decent" players, especially when they're only 21 years old.

I dis-a-gree
and I dont want to talk about it. Im kinda sick of Chris Young. You Chris Young maniacs really have to adjust things to make Young's 2006 at TUCSON in which he turned 23 at the end of the year into a better season than Jones's 2006 Tacoma campaign in which Jones turned 21 on August 1st. Get real man. Anybody knows Tacoma is a way tougher place to hit than Tucson. If you dont, you do now. Maybe Young DOES have more potential but, I certainly dont see any EVIDENCE of it.

I'm not a Chris Young fanatic at all. He's not a particular favorite of mine, but he's certainly an excellent prospect. And if you want to talk about difficult places to hit, check out Birmingham, where Young spent 2005. Try translating his line there to your average ballpark . . .looks pretty good, doesn't it?

Jones had a solid year and I doubt anybody would deny that. Looks like he'll be a respectable ML CF to me. That is very "real", to borrow your word. His plate discipline remains iffy however and he still doesn't hit breaking stuff very well. Those are rather big things for a prospect at any level, at any age, to deal with. Right now I fully believe Jones has the skillset to play some good ball in the minors . . .does that translate to the majors? At the moment, no. In time, I think it will.

That being said, it still doesn't put him at Chris Young's level. Young's rapid skill development is tremendous - he's certainly made greater and faster refinements than Jones, regardless of their age. And frankly, I'm inclined to go with a better track record of making adjustments rather than a greater amount of time in which a player may or may not learn to make said adjustments (which is essentially what a later birthdate amounts to, development-wise).

Haha
Not laughing at YOU really. I just had to read that last sentence a few times before understood it. I agree that i would take a guy who HAD shown great development at say 22 over a guy who MAY show great devopment, if I understand you right but there is one problem with that.

Adam Jones and Chris Young are at the same stage in their development!! They are both young players who had good AAA seasons. I was arguing that Jones season was BETTER, based on where he played and , CERTAINLY (Do NOT try to argue this. Its obvious) underated based on the fact that Young gets roughly twice the attention Jones does...if not more...actually it IS more.

They are at the same stage and Jones is 2 years younger!! Funny that baseballcube lists Jones at 21 for the season and Young as 22 for last year but Jones TURNED 21 in August while Young turned 23 in September. Im sure they just draw the line at september or something for ages but, it could be misleading for some.

I live in Seattle so I may be more aware of it but, Tacoma is a tough hitting environment and of course, Tucson is not.

Based on this I am surprised that ANYBODY thinks Young is a MUCH better prospect except that many dont even think Seattle is in the major leagues...haha

Nope
You're confusing "stage of development" with what minor league level the guy played at.  Young is a more advanced player, and you need to look no further than BB/K rate.  Young's BB/K rate this year was .73, while Jones' rate was .36, half of Young's rate.  What this means is Young has more advanced control of the strikezone, so if everything else between them was totally equal, Young is more advanced due to the BB/K rate.  The thing is, I don't think everything else is equal between them.  Young has shown more speed on the bases, and has a better success rate 75.5% to 68.4% for Jones.

I think by now we all get you don't think Chris Young is anything special.  If maybe one expert shared your opinion, maybe people would give it some thought.  That includes John, who raised Young's grade to an A- if I'm not mistaken.(not in the top 20 here but for the book)

I don't get enjoyment out of reading baseball books. I'd rather watch a sci-fi movie on TV. -Joe Morgan, Emmy winning BASEBALL analyst

He's going to Tacoma
They said during the broadcast of the game today that he would be in Tacoma so he can play every day.  Wasn't all that long ago he moved to the outfield, he can use the experience.
