NCAA to pro baseball, an interview with Marlin pitching prospect Don Czyz
Don Czyz was an All-American at the University of Kansas where he was named NCAA Stopper of the Year in 2006, an award given out to the most outstanding college relief pitcher. An interview with Czyz is posted at the KU blog Rock Chalk Talk.
The interview covers Czyz's four years with Kansas and his first year in the Marlin's minor league system. He talks about the adjustments he had had to make since going pro, about differences between the college game and the pro game, and how well prepared he believes NCAA baseball made him for the jump to the minors. There are some interesting points in the interview. For example, I was not aware that NCAA baseballs were different from the balls used in the professional baseball. Apparently the NCAA baseballs have raised laces, forcing college pitchers to relearn some grips when they move up to the pro ranks.
Hope you enjoy the interview. Don should be at the high-A level this year.
