Dexter Fowler

I need the 411 on this Rockies prospect.

Star-divide

Anyone have any idea as to when he might make the big leagues?  Any comparable MLBers?  Any inside dish?  I would love to know more.

from everything ive heard
hes a lot like cameron maybin. talll and lanky with all 5 tools, but i think he projects for less power and isnt quite as talented as maybin. he also doesnt get much attention, but i think all that will change this season

Devon White
I have heard of that comparison.  I don't think he's quite in Maybin's class.

I agree
thats why i said "with less talent", but thats not necessarily a knock. physically, i think the two look identical

speaking of maybin
you think he;; get a full time gig sometime in 2008? i think its funny how his ETA went from 2011, to 2010, then 2009, now people are saying 2008 sometime bc of how well he did this ST. I really do think Maybin is going to be something special

Arrival in the bigs: Opening Day 2009...
...is what I've read. His speed rates as an 80 (i.e., perfect/best) on the BA scale.  Comparable to Juan Pierre.

Rockies CF of the future, for sure.

BA scale
Heh... the 20-80 scale existed long before BA.

Some say Branch Rickey invented it. It also closely resembles the kind of normalized scaling that statisticians have used for many many decades (eg, SAT ranges from 200-800 with 500 being the median).

Not quite Pierre....
he's going to have more power than that.  In Pierre's 2.5 years in the minors, he hit 1 HR.  Fowler hit 12 in his 1.5 years so far including a homer from both sides of the plate on Opening Day.

I've heard the Devon White comparison....however I've also heard his defense compared to that of Andruw Jones.  The scouting report says the kid can play defense in the majors right now, however his bat still has a few years of development needed.

He just started learning to switch hit....so the bat will take time.  I think mid-2009 is a bit better of a bet.  He certainly could breakout this year and get on the fast-track, however when the Rockies drafted him, they knew the bat would take time and don't plan on rushing him.

yep
At 6'5", its hard to compare him to Pierre. Once he fills out (he's about 180 pounds), he should develop some power. Especially in Colorado.
