Interesting
I'm surprised there weren't more low average / big strikeout players taken, even if they do well in some of the other categories.  No Jonny Gomes, no Preston Wilson (if he can make a team, I guess), etc.  Also interesting - one would think that crappy corner infielders who are guaranteed starting jobs (oh Jeff Burroughs, where have ye gone) would be at a premium in this league, yet middle infielders were still taken early for the most part.

It's hard to tell because it's written by draft and not by team, but I think I like LimaTime's draft the best...

Will Eli be showering in Evian at last?

well
I picked up Preston in the fifth round, not knowing he didn't really have much chance for PT. That's the really hard thing about this draft. These guys don't get news coverage. Preston not getting PT isn't similar to Upton not getting PT, and who cares if Mark Kotsay is on the DL(another mistake I made).

Kyle Davies
Great late round pick up! I really liked that pick.

Surprised I didn't see Prior's name on the board... unless I missed it. I know there are questions about his health improving, but I think his downside is too great to ignore. Same with Kerry Wood.

Somedays I wish I hadn't of given him a long term contract in my DMB League :(

What categories are your using again (I am too lazy to go find the original post about this league)?

And by the way, the Ball Washers are going to suck! They got like four surefire HOFers on that team and probably half a dozen others that could make it if their careers continue on the same path. Sucker! Team has a long re-destroying process.

prior's LTC
i'll take him.  i don't think i've got enough risk in my rotation.  i only have jason schmidt and tim wakefield signed for 3 more years.  add prior to my offseason acquisitions of carl pavano and john patterson and i've got all the case studies necessary to becoming a rotator cuff specialist.

its a good thing i got rid of gil meche though.  torn labrums scare the shit out of me.

it's a bad strategy to base your lineup on the relative beauty of a man's outs rather than the rate at which he makes them.

torn labrum
I saw an article (I think it was Will Carroll) and he mentioned the only success to that date from a serious torn labrum was Julio Mateo or someone of that caliber. Not pretty.

Is this some kind of joke?

fine line
I took part in the draft and my team is Pie Traynor.  The fine line is finding players who will have bad years, hitters with lots of k's, few bb's and little production at the plate.  They also need to have a fair amount of times caught stealing and committing fielding errors.  But they need to be god enough to get enough PT to play all season.

As for pitchers, much the same.  They need to give up homers and runs while not getting many k's.  They have to be bad enough to score enough points in this format but good enough to stay in the rotation all year.

This was a tough draft.  Much more difficult than expected.  Like any other draft, there is position scarcity- middle infielders are the big scorers.  But someone like Podsednik led all OF's in this type of scoring, even though he scored about 1/2 the number of points as the high ranking middle-infielders (based on last year's stats).

No one took Jose Lima either...
even the guy with the team name LimaTime

by yanksfan6129 on Mar 11, 2007 9:45 PM EDT reply actions

I would've
He isn't available. I think managers and GMs caught on to the fact that he isn't a very good pitcher and that they'd be better off throwing a little leaguer out there to give them a taste of the show. If he gets signed sometime, I'll be the first to jump on that.
