Might be 20?

via Metsblog

MILB page

Weird.  Might just be a typo, but if you go to his MiLB page, it says he was born in 1986, but if you search Martinez, when they all come up, it says 1988.

If he really is 20, how much of a hit does his prospect status take?  This could put a damper on prospect smackdown on Wednesday.

It's a typo
They have several DOBs wrong on MiLB.com. They have Fabio Castillo at like 22.

Baseball America and MLB hav already Cleared it up

Based on an apparent error in the minor league baseball database, Mets prospect Fernando Martinez was listed as having a birthday of December 10, 1986 on his player page at minor league baseball's website. Obviously, this would mean he is 20 years old and not the 18-year-old phenom that he was believed to be.

If this were true, it would certainly dim his prospect status. You can breathe out Mets fans, because it is not true.

When reached by phone this morning, Mets farm director Adam Wogan reaffirmed that Martinez was born on October 10, 1988. An official with MLB has acknowledged the error and it will be corrected.

I think it's
a sporadic thing that they primarily feature during events, such as the Caribbean WS going on now. But maybe there's significant info on there even when it's not featured, I don't know.

ba blogs
They just started the prospect blog a couple days ago.
The College blog started last week.

And if you go here, it looks like they're planning a draft blog as well.

St. Lucie...
At least they brought their website into the 21st century, albeit in MLB.com copy-cat form. The old site would make you sterile if you looked at it too long...
