Keeper Help

I've got to trim my roster down to 10 keepers in a 16-team, points-based league.  I like the idea of keeping Drew, Gordon, and Hamels based on their potential, but still can't pick the three guys I should drop.

   1. Stephen Drew
   2. Alex Gordon
   3. Cole Hamels
   4. Derrek Lee
   5. Felipe Lopez
   6. Daisuke Matsuzaka
   7. Jorge Posada
   8. Alex Rios
   9. Mariano Rivera
  10. Francisco Rodriguez
  11. Gary Sheffield
  12. Dan Uggla
  13. Brandon Webb

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Here's one
Uggla probably won't do something like last year, so he is the best bet to boot.

hmm
I'd consider dropping Felipe Lopez because Washington is going to sap his power significantly.  Posada is old, he's a no-brainer drop in my mind.  Besides that, I'm not sure Derrek Lee is a keeper.

Easy one
Sheff, Rivera, Posada.  No, I'm not anti-Yankee, but these guys are getting a bit long in the tooth.  Lee is worth keeping to see if he rebounds.

I'd go....
Uggla, Posada, then either Lopez or Rivera.

I don't think you can expect a repeat performance out of Uggla, and Posada has caught WAY too many games in his career to keep around. I'd cut Lopez if you think there'll be any decent middle infield options in the draft, Rivera if not (since you have a younger K-Rod to replace him).

Posada, Uggla, Sheff
Posada's old, and not a top-5 catcher.  He's the first cut I'd make, and I can't think of a good argument for keeping him.

I think you have to pick one of your 2B and toss the other back.  I keep Lopez and get rid of Uggla.  Uggla's season was completely unexpected, while Lopez has been acknowledged as a talented player throughout his career.  Lopez has improved his plate discipline (.081 isoD) and base stealing (44SB, 12CS), and has great value in a points league even if RFK decreases his power this season.  It's also important to note that they're moving to a new park next year, so the power outage may only be temporary.  It's close, but I'll take Lopez.

The third is the toughest.  With the depth available at 1B and OF, I'll drop Sheffield.  He's a definite injury risk at this point, and that's not a chance I think you need to take with your keeper depth.  The only other person I'd consider here is Rivera, and I think Marinano has more good seasons left than Sheff.

Posada, Uggla, Lopez
Those guys are easily replaceable in your draft.  Don't drop Sheff or Rivera, as they have the potential to be huge.  Rivera is still a top 2 or 3 closer.  Got to believe you could trade Sheff for a decent 2B down the road if you needed to...

I agree Posada, uggla and Lopez
Uggla will not repeat his career year, he will be lucky to even get close to it. I have never been much of a Lopez fan and I think he has absolutely peaked. Posada is on the down side, let him go.

add me to that list.  Uggla had a career year and Lopez as well.  I like Posada as a player, but his best days are behind him.

In no universe should you drop D-Lee.

well
I don't think dropping 2 MI is the right plan.  I'd be inclined to stick with Lopez is you're dropping Uggla, if only because Lopez's OPS doesn't kill you from a 2B standpoint and his steals are going to help massively.

I guess I've kind of turned around my stance on who to drop.  At this point I'd say Posada, Uggla, and D. Lee or Sheff depending on who you like more and what your positions look like.

I drop Shef
With him DH'ing, if he has any kind of twinge that makes the Tigers concerned - he will not see enough games in the OF to matter more than a DH so if you need him for OF eligibility - it is a big gamble.  Lee offers more upside in my opinion.

Well...
Shef, Posada and Rios should be dropped.  Nice core group is left.

Damn, I have McCann, Peavy, Chris B Young, Wright, Morneau, Wells, Cano, Street, Dunn?  Which four should I keep?  I'm thinking McCann, Peavy, Young, and Wright.  Any ideas?  It's a 14 team, head-to-head, 10x10 league.  Thanks.

swap Morneau for Young...
...and you've got it right.  Young is good, but not a ton above replacement level.  Morneau could be the real deal.
