fantasy baseball type question

Hey,
First of all let me start off by thanking you for reading this post.
I'm in my first year in a deep keepers salary-cap league where you can keep players up to 5years (or more if they are farm players). I'm taking over a team that is balanced in hitting and pitching, and has a decent farm system, but would like suggestions as to which top prospect I should build my team on.
I hold the 3rd pick in the upcoming farm draft and the two guys ahead of me are set on picking Price and Moustakas.

That leaves me with players like Porcello, Vitters, Heyward, Wieters, Parker, Dewilters, Laporta to select from.
My question is should I build my farm around a top notch pitcher like Porcello or stick to a top hitter?
Normally in fantasy baseball leagues I build around the hitter, but there appears to be a sizeable gap between the talent levels of Porcello and the top hitters.

Other things you might need to know about my league is that the scoring format tends to favor hitters, unless the pitcher can rack up crazy strikeout totals (high 200s or more), but there is a bigger drop off between good pitchers to avg pitcher than there is to good hitters to avg hitters.

Porcello
but then again I am a gambler and a sucker for high ceiling yet high bust players.

Porcello?
what's his top pitch?

And why would a scouting report have his slider at 80mph when his fastball is 92-94? That seems far too much velocity difference and usually means there isn't that much bite on it.

Don't think it's particularly close either. Catcher with excellent offensive skillz.

LaPorta
If it is straight up fantasy baseball, that favors hitters as you say, you can't pass up LaPorta.  He'll fit in nicely with the Brewer's young hitters providing HR, RBI, R and not killing you in AVG.

All the other guys have years of projection left, LaPorta is almost ready.

He's a catcher with star potential, and a pretty good chance of fulfilling it.  These other guys are at common positions, and pitchers are just to risky as their stock frequently changes.
Hey fish, leave those kids alone!

He is bar far the best value as a catcher.  He'll be solid at worst.  That said, Porcello is going to be a star 3 or 4 years from now.

Porcello's top pitch is far and away his fastball, great location and good movement.  By the time he makes it to the Tigers he breaking pitches will be MUCH improved (not much of a reason to work on breaking pitches when you're K'ing 21 a game on 2-seamers).  Add in the fact that he has flawless mechanics and he is about as good of a bet as there is for a guy a year out of high school.

I am still a LaPorta doubter (one of the very few) just based on questions with pitch recognition and plate discipline, but he is the favorite to make an impact first.
