How do you value David Dejesus

There is a pretty nice debate on scout.com page for the Royals about the value of David Dejesus. He is rumored to be going to the Braves for Chuck James or possibly to the Rangers(i do not have players involved on this rumor)
I do not rate Dejesus nearly as high as alot of the members on that board. Personally, i would trade Dejesus for James straight up but Royals fans think the Braves should include Lillibridge. I told them that Dejesus is not held in high regard by the rest of the league. Where do you rate Dejesus and what would you think he would be worth in a trade if you were the Braves or Rangers?

depends
If he's that .800+ OPS CF he was in 2005 and 2006, then yea I think he's valued pretty highly.

DeJesus and a decent arm (Nunez? Gobble? Pimentel? Rosa?) for James and Lilli? Just throwing that out there.

Hi gashouse
As a member of that debate who values DeJesus rather highly, I'd like to point out that our issue is with James' value, not DeJesus'.  It might be better to ask what James' value is.  If he's a guy who can put up a 4.00 ERA in the American League, he's probably worth DeJesus, and I'd do that deal.  But if he's a soft-tosser with command issues and a long ball problem, he's not going to put up an average ERA, and he's not worth DeJesus.

KC win
James for DeJesus straight is a win for the Royals.

I agree
I don't like this move at all for the Braves. In this environment, you'd expect to get a good deal more for a starting pitcher with only one full season under his belt.

DeJesus
I think he his a good center fielder. Not a superstar or an all star, but good. His health seems to be a concern and you wonder a little about his slide at the end of last season.

But the Royals have a couple guys who make decent CF but below average left fielders and DeJesus is the most marketable one. I think the Royals should deal him and they could do worse than James.

Between Meche, Grienke, Hochevar, Bannister, Davies, James, etc. you do have to wonder about all the arms he is collecting. Still, it's not a bad deal for either team.

Good all around player...
but nothing that special either.

He gets on base at a pretty good clip and plays decent, not great defense.  Basically, his value is similar to Coco Crisp or Randy Winn.  He is signed cheaply for the next 4 years, so he has value as a trade chip.

But money aside, he's the type of guy who is fairly easily replaceable in the FA market each year(especially this year with a lot of CF out there).  For the last few seasons though, he's been one of the best players on the Royals, and still one of their better trading chips, so it's understandable that fans will value him highly.  But that's something of a commentary on the state of the Royals for that stretch (though things do seem to be hopefully improving).

James is a 26 year old LHSP with a 22-14 career record and a 109 ERA+.  He's not a high ceiling guy, but neither is De Jesus.  He can probably put up about a 4.60 ERA for the Royals, which would be about average there.

I'd say that's a fair return.  You aren't really going to get more than a #4 SP straight up for De Jesus alone.  Kason Gabbard might be a similar guy from the Rangers.

Nice
summary, think it's pretty fair.

one other thing about DeJesus is that from watching and reading about him, he seems like a real stand-up guy.  Which fits right into the Braves mold.

I think this deal would benefit both teams, although it seems to plug a hole and open another one for Atlanta at the same time.
