Depends
if you play every once in a while probably PS3, but it you like to play a couple times a week I would go with the 360.  Xbox live is so much better than PS3 live.

360
I'm no video games expert but I'd say the Xbox. I own one and it's lots of fun. Besides the fee, Xbox Live is great and the general opinion is that Xbox has the most high-quality games of the next-gen systems. They're even going to get the next Grand Theft Auto (if you're into that), which used to be a PS exclusive.

The graphics are great, especially if you play on a HDTV. Plus, it's cheaper which is a nice bonus.

PS3
if only for the fact it is also Blu-ray player....makes it worth it

by RodgerL on Dec 22, 2007 3:57 PM EST reply actions

I picked xbox360...
Gears of war is probably one of my favorite all time games... and you cant really go wrong with the Halo serious if you are into the multiplayer thing.

by Darce on Dec 22, 2007 4:06 PM EST reply actions

at this point
the quality games list for 360 is much bigger.  and xbox live is so far past what the sony people have together.  at this point the only advantage the ps3 has is the blu-ray.  but if it's games you're after, go 360.

360
The only games I really play are Grand Theft Auto type games. GTA will also be availble for the 360 next year not to mention Saints Row, Halo, Mass Effect, Bioshock & Assasins Creed.

360
The only thing PS3 has going for it is the Blu Ray player. There are tons more exclusive games for the 360 and there are far more people that own the 360 so the games will continue to go there instead of the PS3.

So if you want games get the 360.

360
is just a better system right now...both price and performance

by smk1363 on Dec 22, 2007 5:43 PM EST reply actions

disagree
on the performance aspect. The failure rate of 360s is terrible. I have a good amount of friends that have it and they've had serious problems that involve them having to return them to Microsoft and have them repaired. I've been fortunate enough to have no problems so far, but as an owner of both the 360 and the PS3, I will say the PS3 is the better system, the 360 is just more popular. Being that more people have it, the more fun it is to play online. PS3 will win this thing in the end.

I have yet to here any malfunctioning problems for the PS3. Sure the xbox has a larger list of games, but the PS3 is starting to get better and better games. Look at resistance: fall of man, a break through game. Next year is MGS4 and Grand Turismo 5 and a whole slew of others. My thing is exclusivity, because any game that is exclusive for Xbox 360, is almost certainly going to be released on the computer. Not to mention blu-ray is better than HD

Blu Ray v. HD DVD
I'm waiting to see how this plays out. I refuse to buy either one right now, because I don't wanna be one of those people from 1987 with a Betamax player lol. I'm waiting to see who wins this battle.

That being said, I think HD DVD will win. I know next to nothing about the quality comparison, but I think with the "HD" label, HD DVD has the advantage. People know Hi Definition because you hear about it all over. TVs, radio, computer screens, etc. If I can play my old regular DVDs on a HD DVD Player (I think you can, but not sure) then I really want them to win the battle. I have well over 250 DVDs that I bought and burned, and don't want them to become obselete.

Blu Ray versus HD DVD.... there can be only one.

I don't know where you heard that
but you can certainly play regular DVDs on a BD player...in fact it makes a regular DVD look better...I play my regular DVDs on my PS3 all the time.

I see it being a non-issue
This Blu-ray vs HD DVD battle I don't see having much of an impact in a couple years time for the simple fact that there are already machines that can play both format. I do believe that blu-ray disks can hold more information on it, but I don't think that most people can notice a significant difference.

In terms of the question at hand, I'm sure that whoever you're buying this video game console for will be delighted to get either one. I just got a PS3 and it plays pretty good, but I'll say that there are probably better exclusive games to the 360 than to the PS3. Each has it advantages, so just know that you can't go wrong.

New xbox 360's are supposed to be improved
and there's a 3yr warranty, at least. There is likely to be less exclusive games because, well, it's just too expensive to make for each system. I don't own the PS3, probably won't, 360 fits me fine, and the games currently out for it are much better than anything for the PS3, though I imagine in 2 yrs time, that gap will shrink quite a bit.

If you are a baseball video game fan...
then right now you would want to get a 360. There are no baseball games on the PS3. MLB 2k7 is a good game for the 360 as far as baseball sims go.

If you are looking to get a video game system then you definitely would want to get a 360 because the PS3 has a very limited selection of video games. Most good games on the PS3 are also available for the 360.

Here is a list of games I would recommend for the 360:

Halo 3
Guitar Hero 2 & 3
Call Of Duty 4
Assassin's Creed
Bioshock
Mass Effect
Madden 2008
Gears Of War
Half Life 2: The Orange Box
Dead Rising (A Personal Favorite)

by Zabat @ Minor League Ball on Dec 23, 2007 3:35 AM EST reply actions

Well
That is a very good list of games. The problem is, saying PS3 has no baseball game is absolutely false. It has MLB 07: The Show, and it's actually very good from the little I was able to play it. I own MLB 2K7 for 360, and the game is a flat-out joke. If you want a pretty game with shit gameplay, it's for you. If you want a game where the crowd reacts pretty much incorrectly in every instance, it's for you. If you want to listen to Joe Morgan more than you have to on Sunday Night Baseball, I question both your taste in games and in life in general. If you want a 10-7 game with every run scoring on a solo HR, then yes, buy it. The game really makes me yearn from MVP 2005 on PS2. In fact, I played MVP tonight for the first time in over a year, and graphics or not, that game is still tremendous--the hitting mini-game was just fun.

2K needs to improve their game or just give the MLB license back to EA so we get a good product again.

Yeah you're right...
I totally forgot about MLB 07: The Show. I can't vouch for that game since I haven't played it, but

MLB 2k7 isn't that terrible a game as you make it out to be. I find it to be enjoyable for what it is. I mean I believe you can turn of Joe Morgan, so that is a big plus.

MVP Baseball 2005 is still hands down my favorite baseball game though, so I agree on the EA thing.

The Show
is hands down the best baseball sim going. Sony used to suck with baseball games, but ever since The Show 05 they have been terrific.

Also available on PS3
Off of that list the games that are also available on the PS3 are:

Guitar Hero 2 (PS2) & 3 (PS2 & PS3) (360 Version of GH2 has more songs than the PS2 version)
Call Of Duty 4
Assassin's Creed
Madden 2008
Half Life 2: The Orange Box (I have heard bad things about the PS3 version)

Most of these games look better on the PS3 than they do on the 360, but it isn't significantly better unless you have a 1080p HD television.

Some games I would suggest that are exclusive to the PS3 are:

Resistance: Fall Of Man
Unreal Tournament 3
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Ninja Gaiden Sigma

by Zabat @ Minor League Ball on Dec 23, 2007 4:35 AM EST reply actions

I would still suggest...
getting a 360. The exclusives on the 360 are much better games than the exclusive games on the PS3.

don't get a wii
unless you aren't a very serious video game person.  My roommate last year had a Wii and while it was kinda fun, it wasn't something I could sit there for a couple of hours and just play.  The graphics aren't very good.  Playing Madden was a chore and the controls weren't even very football like.  Once the luster of playing that type of system wears off you will be regretting your decision.

by wibadger on Dec 23, 2007 1:30 PM EST reply actions

Get a Wii
The control scheme is beyond incredible.  Yes, some sports games may suffer initially, but others are incredible.  A brief example of this would be the remarkably inspired title, Wii Sports.  It comes with the system, and with good reason.

Moreover, the Wii has access to the full library of Nintendo titles, including the newly released Super Mario Galaxy (the highest rated game ever) and several other great titles both on the shelves and coming down the pipe, including the sure-fire awesome title Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

It's a great system that anyone can play, and it's by FAR the easiest to pick up.  It currently leads in sales.  The gameplay is amazing, the concept is incredible, and the consensus is super positive.

If this sounds like a glowing review, well, it is.  I have a Wii, and it was the toast of my dorm, and it's easily the best system I've ever owned.  I'd advise you to get one, ASAP.

It gets my full recommendation.

by GuyinNY on Dec 24, 2007 3:17 PM EST up reply actions

I agree...
a Wii is the choice for anyone who just wants to play fun games. I disagree that you can't play it for hours. I have played mine for hours before. Its the perfect system for people who have friends over all the time cause they will be able to join in and play the games with ease.
