Desmond Jennings

Hi all,
I was reading Goldstein's comments on Desmond Jennings in his top 11 TB propsect entry he sounds like a stud in the making, another Crawford type player. How would you rate Jennings compared to the top hitters in the 2007 amateur draft? Also I read that Jennings had minor knee surgery. I was wondering if anyone knew more about this and if it'll affect his speed or any aspect of his game as well as his injury status now.
Thanks!

I love Jennings
I actually think he has more potential than Crawford. Not quite as fast, but can play CF (Crawford can't or refuses to) and has much better plate discipline at the same age. He could be really good down the line. He might not ever hit for a ton of power, but will do everything else well.

its still real early in the game
for him, next season is huge. His tools are better than Crawford's: he's just as fast if not faster (haven't seen them race ...), has more power, better plate discipline (tho' Crawford has very little even now), K's at much less rate. Displays solid D already (good instincts) but is very raw and has a lot of work to do but the athleticism is there. Crawford handles the bat much better, excellent bunter, good at handling outside pitches. Jennings struggles with this but again he is very raw and everyone believes he will figure it out. Great work ethic too ( ex football player), so not lazy. His is a case where he is showing an ability to translate his tools & athleticism into skills. Most "raw athletes" drafted just for that fail to do so, at higher levels than HS anyway. He looks to be an exception.

Compared to 2007 draft he's not nearly as polished  a hitter as Moustakas, Heyward, or Vitters but not far behind either. As a HS player I could see him going anywhere from 2nd to 5th rd easy depending on what scout/team saw him.
