Curious about posting rules...

Hey guys, I've noticed some diaries being deleted, and just thought I'd ask John or one of the Mods to run down the posting rules.

Star-divide

A diary was deleted which had to do with someone asking for advice regarding a fantasy league trade. I was pretty interested to see how the debate was going to unfold.

I'd ask that we not delete those, if possible. I especially enjoy the debates that grow out of trades that compare prospects in ways you wouldn't normally compare them.

And I was going to post a trade to get community feedback, but decided to hold off until I asked and better understood the posting rules.

thanks

To clarify...
I don't mean to suggest keeping the posts looking for people to join their fantasy league, but I do enjoy the debates regarding who to keep and who to cut, or evaluating trades. In my opinion, it gives an opportunity to examine these players in a way other than the community list head-to-heads.

Why Things Get Deleted
Artie,

The reason comments and/or diaries get deleted is this:

If we have to delete a user name because we have confirmed that he/she is trolling or using a sock puppet, everything that person posts is deleted automatically.  If they start the diary, the entire diary goes away.  If they post a comment in a diary, the comment goes away.

Other deletions can happen if John feels the diary or comment is a personal attack on another user, or just in completely poor taste.  For example, if a user calls another user a child molester, or makes a joke about child molesting, that post/diary will be deleted.

Does that mean that we are going to appoint ourselves the morals squad?  NO.  It means that this is John's blog, and he will reserve the right to delete things he does not want on it.

If you want to post comments saying that another user is, in your opinion wrong on something, that's ok.  If you want to post comments saying that another user has sexual relations with barn dwelling creatures, that's not ok.

The bottom line is this:  Due to a few (or possibly one) posters, John is having to do a lot more policing of the site, and has had to adopt a no-tolerance policy.  So even though our main problem poster has a few personalities who are reasonable, when we confirm that they belong to this poster, they get deleted.  Period.

Hope this explains things.

why was
Community Prospect #26 deleted?

Maybe
Because #25 didn't have the requisite 200 votes yet and there's a tie between Clement and LaPorta as I type this.  I can't say for sure, because I never saw the thread you speak of.  BAH HUMBUG!  Er, Mahalo

thre real question is...
...why aren't they ALL deleted?  It sucks to log into the site and to see that most of the diaries are Community Prospect diaries.  Ugh.  Give it a rest already.  It seems like there is never NOT community prospect crap going on.

by sabernar on Dec 16, 2007 2:46 PM EST up reply actions

i agree
the 'in my fantasy league" posts are boring twaddle, but the worst is coming here and having everything be community prospect after community prospect. maybe my memory is off, but last year seemed like they didn't dominate the board like they are this season -- i guess it's the prospect rating diaries that are so omnipresent (and worthless, imho).

by scooter on Dec 16, 2007 2:52 PM EST up reply actions

Well....
then why don't you post something?
Send your top 50-100 prospects to slurveone@yahoo.com!!!

by slurve on Dec 16, 2007 3:47 PM EST up reply actions

i do
on occasion, but aside from the disincentive of facing pointless 'community prospect rating' after 'community prospect rating,'  the juvenile trolling and your throwing homophobic brickbats are other reasons that this place isn't nearly as focused as it used to be.  I appreciate that the Sickels are trying to clean this place up and I think John does great work, but that you're still allowed to post after all your juvenilia is a sign that this place still needs cleaning up.

i'm so excited!
I just logged in and 6 of the top 7 diaries are Community Prospects.  Whoopie.  Fantastic!  </sarcasm>

Seriously though, all these CP diaries are putting a damper on the site.  I wish John would weigh in on this issue so we can get his opinion.

by sabernar on Dec 16, 2007 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

I can do that sarcasm thing too
Yeah, we're at a site dedicated to minor league prospects, why the hell do we have so many Community Prospects.....oh.

Either create your own diaries or shut up.  The people here are not required to create diaries you find exciting.

by marcello on Dec 16, 2007 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

Well, then go away
Cast many stones in the glass house of yours lately?  It was a simple question and you come back with that?  What happened to you being this "no complaints sort of guy?"  Obviously you missed the satire in that diary and just can't let it go.

To quote you again "I thought this was  a minor league baseball site. would be appreciated if it would stay such."

Practice what you preach, bro:  http://minorleagueball.com/comments/2007/8/15/11235/4479/10#10

You're hypocritical and pompous.  I know I can be an ass sometimes, you appear to be in complete and utter denial.

Send your top 50-100 prospects to slurveone@yahoo.com!!!

grow up
and please never directly address me again. i have no interest in joining your little internet troll battles that you live for and am sorry i responded to you here. i won't do so again.

lol
making personal attacks on others, then talking about not wanting to get into fights, and questioning the judgement of the owner of the board for not booting someone you don't like. Then topping it off with this.

I don't get it either.
If someone doesn't want to get into a war... bah, nevermind.

what else is going on?
This is a board about minor league prospects.  There is no minor league games going on.  There is no new information about any of the players (other than trades which may impact them - which do result in posts)

Feel free to post anything you want that would further the discussion about prospects.

just stop it please
You want me to weigh in? OK.

I think a lot of people here are suffering from holiday depression, cabin fever, or seasonal affective disorder. Something is sure wrong with a lot of you...getting snippy with each other over minor things.

Just stop it, OK? We've had enough problems with trolls lately, we don't need long-established and respected community members getting into playground fights over stupid shit. If you don't want to read a diary, then don't. Come up with a topic yourself.

Just stop it. All of you. I don't have time to deal with this crap. This community has policed itself extremely well over the last two years.

Everyone take a goddam chill pill. I know I need to.

+1
The level of invective and insults is at a record high around here. "Idiots" has become a commonly accepted term to use to describe others who disagree, and I think that's unfortunate. There's zero need for that kind of talk, ever. Relax, guys.

get some sunlight
in other countries, Seasonal Affective Disorder is called Sunlight Deficiency Disorder, but here we must call it "SAD" bc it sounds like some fancy disorder/problem

well that and
We need to label everything so it can be medicated allowing everyone to either a) have an excuse for being a fuckup or b) make money off it.

yep
I stopped short of saying that, but of course that is the reason why (moreso the latter)
