LAST CALL - TOP 50/100

I'll be busy with work pretty much the next few days, so I won't have too much time the rest of the week to finish compiling the top 50/100 list.  If you ant your list included in the first edition - have it to me by early afternoon this Saturday.  You can always send one in after that and/or update your list after that, but it probably won't make the intial list...  Any questions, let me know...

1, 2, 3
That's an interesting 1, 2, 3.

"interesting"
is an interesting way to put it.

by Galt on Dec 12, 2007 2:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
I didn't know how else to say it.  I don't have a problem with the top 3, but it's got to be a fairly unique top 3.

thanks
i like upside

where's the problem?
now that there are no kids named Upton that qualify for this list...Maybin is the one with the biggest combo of athleticism/tools/ability/speed/Defense/most likely to be Griffey...Bruce is quite possibly Pat Burrell Jr...I figure that is the biggest problem, right? Maybin is too high and Bruce is not #1

Just my opinion...
but where's Clay?

Maybin, Kershaw and Bailey all seem too high to me.

Nobody
Is wastinmg anybodys time. Its his opinion and thats it. I personally never saw any reason that Bailey should have enn downgraded as a prospect from last year at all so while I dont agree...I can see his point.

As far as Kershaw, I have seen him and , if I were drafting prospects I would likely take him second as well.

Maybin #1 is interesting to me. Personally I think LaPorta is the next Burrell... actually better and he could do it from ther jump in the big leagues IMO.

My opinion on Maybin is he has everything you'd want in a prospect EXCEPT a great bat which is kinda the most important thing. Andruw Jones was never a great hitter either and he was a #1 prospect or close.. Maybin can chase flies like Andruw I'll tell ya.

great point on Maybin...
because of his athleticism, I think Maybin's floor is pretty high. even if he fails with the bat, his speed and glove abilities are going to make him nothing short of a regular CF [and very good defensively] for many years [what is that worth on the open market nowadays? Andruw hit .220 last season and is still worth $18 mil in 08]. Add to that his pedigree/scouting reports/accolades from HS, plus how highly the Marlins obviously think of him...to me, that puts him in a 'can't miss' category of his own [and in a demanding and sought after/valuable position].

crimson
i'll 'splain more when i post the 50...maybe a nice paragraph or two...I dont really see how my list can't 'make sense' though, but i think i get what you mean...I think you mean that Im just kinda throwing gum at the whiteboard or whatever the saying is...

well, no, i have some semblance of a 'formula'...well, not formula, thats not a good word, as that's mostly what i tend to stay away from compared to most. i'd guess its more of a 'method'...

and i hit and miss just like any person who guesses on prospects would...  its just a different style that i employ.

I don't like him as much as Dave
but I guarantee Maybin is in BA's top-3, so saying he can't be #1 on Dave's list or that he's an idiot for having him there is absurd.

Oh
and  like Joba, Bailey has 2 plus plus pitches and a passable change.  If you believe this year was caused by his groin and he'll bounce back, I see no reason he can't be #3.

We all have our biases.  I like McGee more than Kershaw.  Very few agree with me, but that's my opinion.  I'm not doing a list, but the point of them is to stimulate discussion, not to rip people because you don't like this guy as much as he does.

excellent posts
Tyler...that's the whole reason i post my lists...to generate discussion.

also, because i have very few biases....the only 'bias' i really have is my gut. and that im a strongly visual-oriented person....but that's one of my strengths...take it for what its worth

hmm
well everyone is welcome to post their own thoughts and top 10lists.
i think we can all agree that the order of the list is not one many of us can agree with. however if it's a list that takes upside as a major factor (as opposed to how we think their careers will turn out) then i think the rankings are fair.
i'm interested to learn where f-mart, big v and clay were ranked.
