Mitchell Report - Thursday @ 2PM EST
Steroid Report Expected to Cite About 50 Players
"...What it contains will be officially revealed Thursday, when Mitchell holds a 2 p.m. news conference in Manhattan followed by a separate news conference by Commissioner Bud Selig to discuss the findings. But two people who are familiar with Mitchell's investigation, and his findings, said that the report would contain the names of more than 50 active and former major league players who are linked to the use of performance-enhancing drugs....
....Both said many of the names in the report are directly tied to information provided to Mitchell's investigators by Kirk Radomski, a former bat boy and clubhouse attendant for the Mets who pleaded guilty to steroid distribution in April.
In Radomski's plea agreement, he stated that he provided dozens of players with steroids, human growth hormone and stimulants from 1995 through 2005...."
"...The evidence that Mitchell will use to cite players is expected to be documentary in nature -- canceled checks, shipping slips, phone records -- and not based on positive drug tests...."
Feel free to speculate which all star players (since nobody cares about anyone else) that will be listed among the 50 or chide people who are speculating about it.
The key facts are that the source worked for the Mets and he was supplying between '95 and '05.
I think Piazza is a lock. I also bet that Arod will be mentioned.

My feelings on this whole issue/report
by RVachon on Dec 12, 2007 11:51 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
My guesses
Todd Hundley
Bernard Gilkey
Edgardo Alfonzo
Carlos Baerga
Manny Alexander
Roger Cedeno
Armando Benitez
Rey Ordonez
Mo Vaughn
Robert Alomar
This would squash Alomar's future HOF induction.
I think Piazza was clean, but if he's named, also bye bye HOF for him.

Let's keep something in mind
David Segui is another great example of an ex-Met who got to know Radomski when both were Mets employees.

Some breakdown.
When he took Jason Giambi I had to keep it in the family, ditto with Brian Giles. I figured he would do the same with Sweeney(who I was planning on taking before this thread,) but he didn't.
I went in knowing the Mets trainer thing and was planning on taking Hojo, ome other names I took from the list above, thanks for the help.
When he went with Koch I decided to follow suit with a pitcher myself. I would love nothing more than to see Schilling and Clemens on there.
I tried to avoid Brewers and Red Sox because of Selig's connections to Milwaukee and more importantly due to Mitchell's Red Sox ties.
When he took Griffey I was more than happy to take A-Rod, wow was that round loaded with talent.
My buddy said if he ends up in the report then Frank Menechino is the best pick of the draft.
Of the guys he took I think Mueller, Andruw, Edgar, Rickey Henderson, Mike Cameron, Bobby Jenks and Rod Beck are long shots to be in the report and I would not have taken any of them myself.
We were going to go 25 rounds but we were on a roll and having fun so we went to 30. If we went further I would have taken a serious look at Ray Lankford.
(This entire post is meant as a joke, there is some truth in what I say, but I say these things very lightly.)
I would love to hear what others think of the draft and our "teams."

Griffey....
Not sure about Edgar and Rickey Henderson either, but I can definitely see the reasoning. I think Caminiti should have gone higher in the draft, but I could see why he dropping (The Canseco Conundrum that you mentioned).
The A-Rod one I think would be an even bigger deal than Bonds if he is on the list. As a baseball fan, I hope his name stays clean. He's a bit of sunlight at the end of the tunnel. Instead of focusing my hate at Bonds, I try to turn that energy into momentum for A-Rod to break every HR record Bonds has, to scrub them free of their taint (did I just say scrubbing taint? LMAO)....
Anyways, great idea, I bet it was a lot of fun, thanks for posting it. Ignore what other grouchy old men say about it, we're all just having fun.

Serious discussion on the report
Drugs have been around for a long time. There are hundreds of players in MLB at one time so a list of less than 100 players, is pretty pointless. The report, which was designed to shed some light and provide closure during the Steroid Era, will only feed the media with more ideas for speculation and call out how it unfairly it singles out certain players. The subject matter may change, but the media story will be the same. "We're all to blame. blah, blah, blah."

Tejada/Roberts
My buddy who lives in Baltimore heard the Cubs are "very close" to trading Sean Marshall and a minor leaguer (he's not as familiar as most on this board about prospects, he could not remember the name) for Roberts. Are the O's trying to distance themselves from the report?

Way too much hype
Jason Giambi, Jose Canseco, Ken Caminiti, Barry Bonds and maybe Sammy Sosa - 3 MVPs who all ready confessed to knowingly using, 1 who confessed to unknowingly using (and accused in essence of knowingly using) and 1 who was named in a book and brought before congress.
And All-Stars should be even easier
