Mets Reject Twins Offer
So it seems the Mets and Twins were going back and forth to come up with a package for Santana..
Omar put his offer on the table that was GOMEZ, and 3 starting pitchers.. My guess
Gomez,Pelfrey,Humber,Mulvey
Then the Twins countered that offer saying the Mets must add either Fernando Martinez or another pitching prospect.. My guess Deolis Guerra..
I'm kind of happy this trade didn't happen..

Mets are stuck between a rock and a hard place now
One way of looking at it is, we expected their rotation to be bad last year, and they did perform up to expectations.
At this point, they should just sign some innings eaters and let Pelfrey/Mulvey sink or swim.
And most importantly, stop cheaping out on the draft.

Rotation

It was a really fragile rotation
and
it's essentially Maine and a lot of injury / head case / kids (and kids that doesn't look like they are going to be great too)
I have trouble believing the Mets can make the playoff next year without some luck. though to be fair, it's not like the Phillies / Braves have a questionmark free pitching staff . but their offense is more consistent that's for sure.

Glad the Twins aren't listening
Sounds like things are progressing between the Twins and Sox, and it will likely end up being Ellsbury/Lowrie/Masterson/???? for Santana. They are supposedly haggling over the last player.
Mets
If someone is trying to sell something and the best offer is $20 I wouldn't say "hey, let me get in on the bidding. I can top that and give you $17". You'd just look like a fool.
Yankees and Sox are saying one of two top guys. Yankees have Hughes as the centerpiece. Boston has Ellsbury or Lester. Boston is giving better secondary players and these deals are fairly even.
Mets are jumping in with either FMart or Gomez. That just isn't going to work IMO.
Great analogy
That's a perfect analogy. That's exactly what they're doing, just getting into the mix to say they got into the mix.

yeah
Twins want one thing only IMO. They want one sure-fire prospect.
Hughes is that.
Lester + good peripheral prospects is that.
Ellsbury is that.
FMart is not.
Gomez is not.
So Minnesota is hedging their bets wanting both. I really doubt they do it for both though. They probably want one solid pitching prospect added. Maybe not their best but something.
Good stuff pedro,
too many rumours without substance
What did you think about the rumours of TB offering Delmon for A.Miller? I'm one of the biggest fans of Adam but thought the Tribe should have jumped. Adam is awesome but I'm 95% certain he has a tear and needs TJ.
I'm not sure the Mets have any direction at all. I don't like some of the non-deals the Indians avoided. But at least this ship has direction.
I am afraid they are asking too much for Lee however. He's not on my Christmas list ;)
YEAH
It's easy to say you are paying double. Prospects + Dollars for Santana.
But Santana will never be available on the market until the end of his career. There is only one way you get him.
IMO - paying $8 million for mediocre players is stupid. Good GM's are all about bottom end young guys making peanuts and top end guys getting top dollars. Baltimore is the definition of the opposite. Ouch.
I agree
Actually
I dont see how it's pitiful.
Keep Laughin soon enough Deolis Guerra will be one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball.
6'5 200 89-94 topping out at 96 Devistating changeup at age 18..
