OT: Surgery done

So WTF do I do with 10 oxy's at 10 milligrams a piece? Thats supposed to help my pain?

How do I entertain myself for the next month? What did the people here who had this surgery (or any surgery) do?

Right now even SEC football is boring me. That scares me a little. All Perilloux is doing is running and taking a big hit everytime. Yawn.

Nope
Only the first two seasons.  I don't have HBO and I'm waiting for them to put together the 2 halves of season 3 before I go out and buy it.  Love the show though.  It's fast becoming my favorite comedy since early Scrubs.  Mahalo

There's a thread about 60-70 down where Lefty gives the specifics.  If I remember correctly, he's having his shoulder fixed up (but not the labrum).  Mahalo

I watched a lot of tv
tons of movies (had people rent me some stuff and I had a nice collection), I also caught up on a few years of sleep.

Video games aren't bad either if you can play them with your shoulder the way it is (not sure if you can use your hand fully right now or not).

Ditto on the DVDs and all
I highly recommend some of the HBO series.  Deadwood is great, for one.  And I've heard great things about the Wire.  I also spent a lot of time reading books.  And if you can do day hikes, getting a little exercise is always a good thing.

Congrats on being through the surgery!  Good luck w/ your recovery...

The Wire
I got it on DVD, and I'm absolutely hooked.  Best character development and acting of any show on TV.  If you haven't seen it, go rent the first season.  The first few episodes are a little slow (owing to the character devlopment), but halfway through the first season, you'll be completely engrossed.

Recommendation #2 - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  If you're intrigued by a storyline where 2 people purposely get addicted to crack to go get bloodwork done so they can collect welfare, this show is for you.

2nd that
It's by far the greatest show I've ever seen. I blew through the first three seasons on DVD and am eagerly awaiting the final season coming this January.

Lotion, Kleenex, and Playboys....
that's all you really need.

Just kidding... anyways. I would have to agree with the DVD Box Sets and movies. Look for series that lasted awhile so you aren't just watching like one or two seasons before having to move on. Seinfeld, Sopranos, Scrubs, etc. Also I would highly recommend The Office. I think it's the funniest show on TV since Scrubs has gone downhill these past two seasons. I'm also a fan of The 4400, but there have been only four seasons so far, and only three are on DVD right now.

Since it would be presumably not with his normal arm, he may injure it as well and then he'd really be bummin'.

Scrubs!
I agree with everyone else, DVD's are probably the best way to go.  Find a show you like and get a couple seasons.

Hope you feel better man, and good luck with the rehab.

Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Stumbled upon it this year and was brought to tears in a couple of episodes. Sick, twisted humor at its finest in this show. I'm going to pick up the first 2 seasons one of these days, even if I have only seen the third season. Pick it, definitely one of my fave TV shows out now.

Good luck with the rehab and recovery man

Oxy
If 10 mg of Oxy doesn't kill your pain, you've probably had 'em before.  I'd say your doc is being stingy with them if he only gave you 10 though.

by DrBGiantsfan on Dec 1, 2007 7:21 PM EST reply actions

I own the following box sets..
Always Sunny
House
Animaniacs
Pinky and the Brain
Robot Chicken
The Simpsons Season 8 (Friend borrowed it though)

And a sh*tload of horror movies/movies in general.

I have weed.

My friends are loyal. My sisters are loyal.

I think I'll be OK.

Good luck in your recovery LeftyAce88!
Hello LeftyAce88,

I hope the surgery went well and you recover without any setbacks.

Like others in this thread have mentioned, I think the best way to spend time while recovering from your surgery would be the following:

TV watching
DVDs of your favorite programs and movies
General Internet surfing
Listening to your favorite music (CDs, MP3s, Radio)
Reading a good book or two (perhaps even on baseball.  :-)

Again, I hope your recovery goes well without any setbacks!

Take care and have a great day!

books
if you have not read Catcher in the Wry or Ball Four, they will cheer you up. Written before you or I was born, but they are certainly worth looking up!

Can't agree...
with Catcher In The Rye.

I just tried to read it about a year ago, and even though it was only 200+ pages, I couldn't finish it.  I found it pointless, I found the character of Holden to be an annoying main character, and now I think the book is overrated.

Maybe it's an age thing I don't know. I am only 31 now, but maybe you have to be around the main character's age to appreciate the book more. Although, I don't think I would have liked the book when I was 18 either.

+1
I too don't get it with Catcher in the Rye.  I read it at 16 or 17, and it didn't do much for me, then again in my late 20's to see if I just was missing something, having been perhaps too young the first time I read it.  I didn't like it anymore the second time.

That said, I believe that Jrose was referencing Bob Uecker's very funny Catcher in the Wry.

And if you want to take it full circle, Lefty could read (I believe it is called) "Shoeless Joe", and is the book that Field of Dreams was based on.   In the novel, the reclusive author who Ray seeks is JD Salinger, the author of Catcher in the Rye.  That was a very good read as well.

Want to a) pass the time and b) change your life?
read Atlas Shrugged.

1,200 pages with about a 6-point font.

I assume
By "change your life" you mean "ruin your eyesight trying to read that tiny font..."
