flores...

given the recent Church and Schneider trade... is it reasonable to assume Flores will be the starting catcher next year?

The 23 year old hit .244 with a .310 obp last year while showing limited power.

Free agent catchers include Paul Lo Duca, Michael Barrett and soon to be FA Estrada.

do you bring in a vet to back Flores up if you don't go after one of these guys?

Available in Trade...
Gerald Laird?  Guns down 40% of opposing basestealers.  Salty's arrival pushes him out of starting position.  Weak bat last year, but he showed potential in the past and Rangers are strong in catchers.  Can't cost much given last year's performance.

Which is to say...
Laird could start for the Nats and Flores could back him up for a couple more years until he's ready for full-time work.  Not that you'd trade Flores for Laird.

Well
I'm sure Salty is going to be catching much with Teagarden knocking on the door. I could see Chris Davis at DH/1B, and Teagarden & Salty at DH/1B/C.

Cheap?
Reports were if the Mets wanted him they had to give up Carlos Gomez.

I'd like to see him back in the minors
Only because I feel he is still very rushed not having played at AA/AAA. Not that they could've done something since he was a rule V pick.

He's still just 23 and there's no point in pressing him into situations that he's not ready for. I'd rather see some random stop gap and just let the kid develop a little bit more.

some good catchers on the market
and by trade. Who is to say that Washington isn't gonna try for a guy like Ramon Hernandez to groom the young players? The O's probably won't be asking for the moon

Reportedly....
...Omar Minaya targeted R-Hernandez for a trade, knowing the Orioles could use some salary relief towards a rebuild, but Baltimore asked way too much for him.  I can't imagine the Nationals putting together a better package that would seem worth it to them.

Flores does not have limited power
that is probably his best tool, he ain't Adam Dunn, but a .120 ISO for a guy who never played above high a in the majors isn't really anything to sneeze at
