OT: Finally, Surgery in a week.

My long awaited shoulder surgery is just a week away.

4-6 weeks in a sling and 3+ months of rehab. Nowhere near as bad as other peoples shoulder injuries, but 4 dislocations in the past year forced the issue.

They'll be cutting the front and maybe back to tie up the loose ligaments and clear out any crap. I'll be in and out in a few hours.

I think I'm excited actually. After these 4-5 months I should be able to get back to doing the things I haven't done. I can throw a football. I can go to the gym and not have to skip certain exercises.

Not nervous...not at all...who cares if the guys in white coats have knives and stuff and they'll be cutting into me, amirite?

Unless ...
... unless it's his left arm which needs the surgery.  :)

in which case
it would still be important to get the right arm.

This is NO JOKE
I awoke from my shoulder surgery to find that my knee had been shaved and prepped for surgery.  Luckily someone caught it in time.

Anyone see the Futurama episose where Zoidberg sews Fry's arm on the wrong side?

Good luck
Just take it easy the first few days and let people spoil you. Sucks like hell to get dressed the first few days so find a lot of loose pullover shirts that are easy to use. I wore some hawaiian shirts and sweatpants the first 3 days. Do everything the therapist says during rehab - especially the stretching at home. Getting your ROM back is crucial for the entire rehab and you feeling better.

If I get spoiled by people I know...
then it'll probably be by someone I don't want to spoil me.

Unless it's my mother. Very nice lady my mother is.

enjoy the painkillers
I had my surgery on a Friday morning and was back at work on Monday - at least physically. I was pretty much a zombie that week but I was able to type with both hands pretty easily by the 3rd day after surgery. Get one of those coolers that pumps ice water through a sleeve - it will be your best friend for the 1st two weeks.

+1
On the sleeve, loved that thing.  Still use it after a couple days in a row throwing BP.

+1 on the meds at work, wasn't feeling anything after 2 of them bad boys but wasn't getting much done either.

Good luck LeftyAce88!
Hello LeftyAce88,

Good luck with your shoulder surgery - as others here have mentioned, take your time with your rehab and don't try to do too much too soon.  Just stick with the rehab procedure and not much else, especially at first.

Again, good luck to you.  :-)

Take care and have a great weekend!

Eh...
arthroscopic.

Rotator cuff and I'd be crying like a p*ssy about how my life is ruined and blah blah blah.

bueno suerte mi amigo
know that many others, including professionals have had surgery like yours before....am currently reading a book right now that may be useful while you are on the mend. Its called Again To Carthage. Technically, its a running book, but after over halfway, its a book about sports, comebacks, and life. Can't put it down.
This coming from a baseball guy who used to hate running.
